When Alcmy° was created, it’s purpose was to share virtual travel experiences from around
the world to allow people to feel as if they were really in a new destination without leaving the safety and comfort of their homes. We believe virtual travel will encourage people to travel more in real life. Our belief is that travel is a necessity that helps open our eyes to more understanding about each other, ourselves, and the world we live in. That’s what happens when we visit places we have never been to. When you leave a place you just visited, you don’t leave the same. Your perspectives change, your views change, you change.
Let me tell you why now more than ever before how special the trek is up the stairway to Heaven.
People from all over the world visit Hawaii to experience this hike, but now it is no longer possible. Those in charge have decided to spend loads of money to dismantle the stairs taking the experience away from everyone. Hawaii is my home and the once yearly trek up to the top of Haiku stairs (stairway to Heaven) was one of the outdoor activities that I did to help me appreciate the land that I live in.
My hikes up the stairs would start the “legal way” through the backside through the beautiful Moanalua Valley. I’d start in the wee hours of the morning knowing the hike would take approximately 10 hours. I’d time it to reach the sunrise at the top of the mountain.
At the start, everything would be pitch black for
the first few miles until you start your ascension up the mountains. Very quickly you’ll find yourself surrounded by fog, clouds, and darkness as if you were going into the abyss, but never has the thought of the abyss been so inviting as you imagine the thought of the beauty your about to witness once the sun rises again. At dawn as the darkness starts to fade, you start to see the colors of the mountain. You see the lush greenery surrounding you, you hear the wind howling as it whips against you making it hard to balance on the narrow mountain ridges which are already a challenge with little light. The more you walk the steeper the incline gets and each mountain top that you see looks like you finally made it until the silhouette of the next mountain appears hauntingly in the background telling you that you haven’t made it yet. This continues for hours challenging you mentally and physically.
On the steepest parts of the climb there are ropes there to assist you left by previous travelers. As your climbing these fraying ropes and it’s supporting 100% of your body weight your hoping that the rope stays in once piece until you reach the top of that incline.
It’s this type of grueling journey where it’s extremely tough on the body and mind that makes you appreciate all the life you get to witness once you reach the summit of Haiku stairs. If you time it correctly you’ll be approaching the crest of the mountain as the sun is rising over the ocean and shines on the Ko’olau mountain tops and you get to witness one of the most picturesque moments of your life.
The reason why this tour is so special is because this experience is being taken away with the dismantling of the stairs. Yes you can still reach the top by going through the legal way but climbing up the stairs will no longer be possible. Through this virtual tour I have combined both paths to allow you fully experience ascending up the stairway to Heaven. So while it’s impossible to ever climb the stairs again, Alcmy° keeps the experience alive, it’s memory, and brings it to you virtually. This is a must see! Here’s a free preview! Stay tuned for the full tour as part of our The Endless Summer package! Safe travels always.
