Traveling Trumpet Lessons by TrumpetJakeG Hey Everyone! My name is Jake Galloway and I am a Freelance Trumpet Player and Music Educator local to the Greater Lowell MA/Southern NH areas.

A little bit about me and Traveling Trumpet Lessons...

My career as a musician began in Hudson, NH as a sixth grader who randomly selected the Trumpet as the instrument that I wanted to begin to learn while participating in my middle school's band class. Since I received my first trumpet in the mail (that I ordered on eBay!), the instrument that I chose at random more than 12 years ago as an elev

en-year-old boy has lead me to a live a life that I thoroughly enjoy living. The trumpet has brought up and down the East Coast and there is no telling where it will take me next! My playing experience has encompassed a wide variety of music from Classical to Contemporary Christian, Funk to Hip Hop, and Big Band to Brass Quintet with a focus in the vast idiom of Jazz. At the age of 17, I began to teach private trumpet lessons to local middle schoolers as a upperclassman in my High School's music program. I fell in love with the performance aspect and the intrinsic value that comes from teaching another individual to become a better musician. I find that the relationship that is established between mentor and student within the private study of an instrument is different than any other professional relationship. Often times through spending pivotal moments of musical growth within the setting of a private lesson, the link between mentor and student is strengthened and both parties are positively affected which repeatedly forms a stronger feeling of trust and leads to exponential musical success within the student/teacher relationship. As of May 2014, I completed my coursework and received degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in both Music Education and Trumpet Performance as a dual-major. Now that I'm all done with my undergraduate studies, a short term goal I have set for myself is to get a small private company up and running for teaching music lessons. Working in a few different industries other than music education (including food service, large scale production, and occasionally landscaping) has helped me round out my personal work ethic as well as my time management skills. To me, teaching and playing always come first! And as time progresses, I would love to be working more for myself teaching music lessons through this company than working in the other fields I already have jobs in. My life-long goal is to teach my students what making music is all about and to encourage them to always strive to be a better people, moralistically and musically. I like to relate Music to Life and that is the reason why I teach the ART of music and not just how to read notes on a page. I also offer Beginner to Intermediate Private Instrumental Instruction on the following Instruments (Listed in order of Teaching Experience, Top to Bottom):
Saxophone
Clarinet
Trombone
French Horn
Euphonium/Baritone
Oboe
Tuba
Flute

I attribute a lot of the success that I have experienced in the world of music education to the great minds that I have had the privilege of studying with. Their names and roles are listed below. Gerry Bastien: My high school band director and the most influential music educator in my life. His passion bled into me and I'm proud to call him a good friend of mine now. Dan Lutz: Director of Bands at UML. The amount of musical knowledge that I was able to grab onto from him is endless. I am still to this day figuring out some of the things he told me my freshman year of college. Walter Platt: Greater Boston Area Freelance Professional Trumpet Player and Music Educator. I, fortunately, was able to study trumpet privately with Walt the last two years of my college undergrad degrees and that was the best thing that ever happened to my playing. Most of my practice routine today consists of the stacks of materials that I still have yet to go through from him. Dana Oakes: Principal Trumpet at Boston Landmarks Orchestra (Boston Ballet Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic, Portland Maine Symphony). Dana was my private instructor at UML for my first two years there. He made me realize my potential on the instrument and really encouraged me to keep pushing towards my personal goals in playing the trumpet. Rick Schilling: Greater Boston Area Freelance Jazz/Classical Guitarist and Music Educator. Another great musical mind I had the privilege of studying with at UML was Rick. He took me under his wing as a little freshman with a big ego and put me in my place. Although my note choice was constantly corrected by him, he made me realize that my sound on trumpet was approaching that of a professional at a very young age. Russ Ryan: My first private instructor. I studied with Russ for over three years and someday I hope to have a studio of students as large as his.
