True North Expeditions, Inc. would like to thank you for your support over the years. Since 2017, we’ve enjoyed guiding you through the Midwest and beyond. When our 2024 season ends this October, we will be packing up our gear for good and will no longer be in operation.

Our next summer event takes place in just three weeks in Illinois in a beautiful cabin setting for a yoga retreat on the Rock River. Your mornings will begin with a light breakfast and yoga before brunch. Afterward, you are welcome to spend your afternoon on the water exploring the river scenes with a guide. Upon your return you are encouraged to converse, journal and relax before dinner and your gentle evening yoga/meditation session. Meals are provided as well as transportation if needed.

This trip is perfect for groups or individuals looking to connect with like-minded people. Beginner friendly.

Tell us about yourself:
Hey All! Nice to meet you.... Guess you would like to know a bit about your guide before we get on trail.  Where it began... The summer between Freshman and Sophomore year of high school is when I discovered the great outdoors. My mom sent me to a YMCA summer camp where we went out on canoe trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.  I was hooked.  From there, my high school summers were spent paddling, portaging and having a great time.  

Alas, those carefree days came to an end.  So, what next? Hiking. Having always loved walking this next phase of life led me from venturing the concrete paths of the city to the dirt covered paths of the forests.  This new passion began as day hikes that lead to backpacking. These hiking days have been as short as a couple miles of day hiking to attempting a solo thru hike on the Superior Hiking Trail. 

Where are we today?  All of these experiences in life have given me a passion to pass on the love of the outdoors and hiking to others.  My focus right now is to encourage novice hikers, (especially those who have said to me that they should have done this earlier in life) to try it and to be there with them along the way. 

When not on the trail, I enjoy spending time with the joys of my life, my two children and three grandchildren.  We go on “field trips" that include trips to the city, the symphony for a Star Wars concert, explore small towns, visit farmer's markets and gardening together. 

See you on the trail...which one?!?...wherever the adventure leads.

We had a great weekend at Yellow River State Forest with our Beginners Backpacking Bootcamp! We got to witness the Northern Lights in a beautiful open camp area, (which we will share in our next post!) We found morels, climbed some hills and enjoyed the beauty Iowa has to offer. We will definitely be back!
