Last day of the trip, day 2 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

What a fantastic final day! We started early with a walk to see the famous Lion Monument. A monument dedicated to the Swiss Guards killed during the French Revolution.

After some time to shop near Scheanenplatz, which translates to Swans square, we drove up to a restaurant in the mountains and had an amazing meal with spectacular mountain views. This was what Trafalgar tours calls their Be My Guest experience. This is included on their tours to connect the traveler to the local culture and to give back to a local business. I, personally, love this inclusion.

After this we went to a local farm that has dairy cows and got to go on a carriage ride as well as try some delicious cheese that they make themselves. Check out the machine they have that melts it and they scrape it directly onto your toast! It was delicious!

Our last evening of the trip was spent with our group of 13 ladies that traveled with Travel With Shawn Hayes and we went out to have some cheese fondue! I could have eaten the whole pot!

It was wonderful getting to spend this week and meet all of these lovely women. So many memories and new friendships made this week together.

Day 6: Lucerne, Switzerland (day 1 of 2). AND it was my Birthday!

Lucerne may be the most beautiful city I have ever seen! We started our day with a quick stop in Lichtenstein and then on to Lucerne. We did a boat ride out on Lake Lucerne and had spectacular views of the Alps and the city.

In the afternoon, we did a cable car ride up Mount Pilatus. My photos don’t do it justice but it was just beautiful and we had such a clear view. Our tour director had rearranged our tours for us that day based on the weather so we had the best availability and I am so thankful he was able to!

Then, that evening we headed into town to check out the lights and enjoyed dinner. While we were there, we got to see the St Nicholas parade coming through the town.

A magical place to spend my birthday, for sure! One more day to go!

Day 5: Next stop was Innsbruck but a quick detour to Oberammergau. It was the cutest little town and is famous for its passion play that the town puts on every 10 years (next one is in 2030). We got to see some beautiful snowfall here too!

Then off to Innsbruck for some more Christmas Market shopping. We even got to see the Krampus Run! Have you heard of this tradition? In some European countries the Krampus is said to go out along with St Nicholas and he will punish the naughty children. Kind of scary if you have never heard of it but the kids who were there were so excited to see them. It was fun to see this Austrian tradition.

Yesterday some of us visited the Dachau Concentration Camp site. It was a very heavy tour but I am so glad I went on it.

I didn’t take many photos but here is the gate at the entrance with the words “Arbeit macht frei” which translates to “ Work sets you free.” Which we know was not the case for so many
