‘Absolutely outstanding adventure from the entire crew at Teton Troutfitters. Rainey set us up with two boats as it was my aunt, uncle, 89 year old grandfather, and me for a full day drift boat trip with Nic and Mike. The day started a bit inauspiciously when Mike noticed the visibility on the Snake River was only about a foot, so they suggested that we audible our trip to the Salt River, which was a GREAT CALL! Our whole crew, including my grandfather, caught fish all day (which says a lot because we are all very inexperienced and it had been about 65 years since my grandfather last fly fished). Nic and Mike were great guides and it was truly one of days that we'll never forget, so a huge thanks to Ryan, Rainey, Nick, and Mike for making it all happen!’

Episode 3 of our "Do You Know Jackson Hole?" series is here, and we're diving into the hidden gem that is the Salt River!

Just south of Jackson Hole near Alpine, Wyoming, this 84-mile beauty offers a tranquil alternative to the busier waters around.

Nestled between the Wyoming Range and the Caribou Range, the Salt River flows through the picturesque Star Valley, creating a lush riparian corridor bursting with wildlife. Think moose, elk, deer, and maybe even a black bear spotting! Plus, you'll often see bald eagles and ospreys soaring above.

The Salt River is home to a variety of fish species:

native cutthroat trout, impressive brown trout, rainbow trout, and the often overlooked mountain whitefish.

The sun is shining and the forecast is looking bright here in With good weather finally on the horizon, it's the perfect time to dive into some quick river reports to get you dialed for the week to come. 🌞

Snake River: Flows have increased to 4,500 cfs from Jackson Lake Dam, causing some off-color conditions due to snow melt. If you find clear water, target those slower water types like deep banks, buckets, and tailouts. The discharge pool by Jackson Lake Dam is a great spot for lake trout—try intermediate lines or light sink tips with clouser minnows and kreelexs.

Green River: Currently in runoff mode with increasing flows and diminishing clarity. Cold water temps mean nymphing and streamer fishing are your best bets. Focus on seam lines, eddies, and tailouts for the best action.

Salt River: Runoff from snow melt is causing increased flows and decreased clarity. Keep an eye on the weather and flows—cold water temps mean nymphing and streamer fishing are key. Look out for dry fly opportunities with BWOs, Midges, and Caddis when conditions are right.

Welcome back to our " Jackson Hole?" series, where we delve into the lesser-known facts about the region's most captivating fishing spots.

In this episode, we're casting our lines into the vast and storied waters of Yellowstone Lake, a new premier destination for Teton Troutfitters this summer.

Fact 1: A Lake of Superlatives
Covering a staggering 136 square miles with a depth that reaches 394 feet, it is the largest high-elevation lake (above 7,000 feet) in North America. The lake's massive size and remote location within Yellowstone National Park make it a pristine habitat for numerous fish species, particularly the native Cutthroat Trout, which thrive in its cold, clear waters.

Fact 2: Volcanic Underpinnings
The two resurgent domes (areas of uplift over the magma chamber) in the Yellowstone Caldera are rising at an average rate of about 1 inch per year. This uplift is causing Yellowstone Lake to "tilt" southward, creating larger beaches on the north shore and flooding in the southern arms.

Fact 3: The Cutthroat Conservation Efforts
Cutthroat Trout are crucial, not just for their ecological role but for their cultural significance. In recent decades, the lake has faced invasive species challenges, such as the introduction of Lake Trout, which prey on the smaller Cutthroat. Thanks to rigorous management and removal efforts, the Cutthroat Trout are making a commendable comeback.

Fact 4: A Historical Angling Destination
In the late 19th century, around 40% of Yellowstone's waters were barren of fish. To address this, the park constructed a two-story fish hatchery near Lake Hotel in 1912. By 1920, the Director of National Parks indicated that the hatchery was successfully replenishing the fish supply.

While this introduced invasive species that impacted native cutthroat trout, it made Yellowstone Lake an attractive angling destination.

With , every cast brings not just a chance for a great catch but a deeper appreciation for the rich history and vibrant ecology of this extraordinary region.
