We're so happy to have hosted another field trip on Cumberland Island!

Students love the history and trivia, hands-on experiences such as touching historic tabby walls, and shelling at the beach that our tours provide.

Thank you once again to Kelly Tours for bringing another great group to learn about our magical island!

I always look forward to trivia/tours with the St. Marys Senior Center!

Yesterday's tour was a preview of next week's Churches and Chocolates: St. Marys Christmas Walking Tour, with special access inside downtown's historic churches. I can't wait, and I hope you can't, either!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in St. Marys!

These festive paintings cover windows with views of our historic Toonerville Trolley. Come take a peak at it and learn how it may have helped coin the phrase "See you in the funny papers" on our Fugitives, Fighters, and Fudge tour!

We love when out-of-town groups join us to discover St. Marys! This North Palm Beach Recreation group especially loved the charm of the Goodbread House...and I can't blame them!

This horse is putting the "wild" in Cumberland's wild horses...

He chose not to follow the rules, as we spotted him INSIDE the Carnegies' private fenced cemetery!

You never know where you'll find the island's horses, and that's part of the fun!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Enjoy this Southern take on the holiday!

What if America's first Thanksgiving was not at Plymouth at all but was much earlier and much farther south than the history books tell us?

Thanks to our guide, Deb, for sharing the incredible array of creatures she and our guests have spotted on our tours!

Several guests on this Cumberland Island tour were visiting because it was their family member's birthday. He passed away in February but had camped on Cumberland for years with his friends. His family had never been but came to experience the island in honor of his birthday.

We love hearing guests' heartwarming stories! Do you have any meaningful connections to a place like this?

About

My name is Molly Verlin, and I love art, travel, exercise (i.e. dancing, kayaking, hiking), and food! Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, I graduated from Davidson College with an Art History degree and immediately moved to Italy to become a tour guide. After receiving my Master’s degree in Renaissance Art in Florence through Syracuse University, I returned to the U.S. permanently. These days (when not unemployed due to the Coronavirus) I guide in Italy with Rick Steves’ Europe a few months of the year and the rest of the year teach Art History and lead tours in Jacksonville and St. Augustine from my new home base in St. Marys, Georgia. Now that the pandemic has stopped me from the international travel I so loved and depended on, I’ve been inspired to appreciate what is in my own backyard. The American South is a stunning region with a rich history that I feel is under-explored. I intend to remedy that with this blog. Thank you for checking it out!
