Wheel-Wishers www.WheelWishers.org Our primary objective is to find truly innovative and effective solutions to the greatest problems faced by our civilization.

Our mission is to alleviate human, animal and environmental sufferings in the world by helping YOU to discover, learn and contribute to solutions to these challenges. We have seen from our experience working in many countries, that there are countless number of innovative solutions, whether it is in the form of social enterprises, corporate social responsibility projects or simple (community-based

) activities driven by very passionate individuals and/or communities. We believe it is important to document, analyze and inform a wide public about these innovative solutions. We also believe that learning about these innovative solutions should not only be at the academic level through e.g. research articles, but should also be understood by the information provided by the persons who came up with these innovative solutions through e.g. interviews and documentaries. We believe that generating direct emotional connections to these problems and innovative solutions, would lead to greater understanding and the involvement of people, particularly those from developed countries. Our focus is on mainly local grass-root initiatives as we belief that the most sustainable solutions to human, animal and environmental sufferings come from the very own individuals and/ or communities that are faced with these challenges. The creation of informative visual media is our primary tool of sharing these "stories".

General information

One of the primary objective of Wheel Wishers it to identify and document effective and innovative social enterprises around the world. Social enterprises occupy the space between traditional for profit driven businesses and mission driven non profit organizations. Wikipedia defines a Social Enterprise as an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being, rather than maximising profits for external shareholders. (Wikipedia) Given the fact that Social Enterprises operate in a competitive commercial space and they often must pursue costly activities to be able to realize their mission, it is generally much more difficult type of organization to survive. Yet, there has been enormous interest in social enterprises by the international community, leading to an increasing number of financial and organizational support organizations. However, these international support organizations tend to prefer innovative and scalable organizations due to obvious cost issues. Wheel Wishers will focus on scalable, but also on non-scalable social enterprises. We believe there are lessons to be learned in social enterprises regardless their size. Beyond scale, we are focusing on the following 10 sectors in our search for social enterprises, namely: 1. Healthcare 2. Food 3. Energy 4. Education 5. Waste Management 6. Water and Sanitation 7. Communication Infrastructure 8. Financial Services 9. Tourism 10. Environment Throughout the journey, Wheel Wishers will be looking into the various CSR activities of businesses in each country that it will be visiting in order to get a better understanding of; current situation of CSR activities, main reasons for businesses to be engaged in CSR, and the impact of CSR on local community. Our ultimate goal is creating a comparative analysis of the impact of CSR on less advantaged people in the world.
