Timber Tiger Farm

Timber Tiger Farm A chronicle of our homestead adventures. Timber Tiger Farm is a micro-homestead located in the hills SE of Eugene, Oregon.

Our current mission is to manage to grow and preserve some food while surviving life with a toddler and a baby. We always enjoy teaching about what we're doing, so feel free to ask questions!

After a bout with long covid and thinking I wouldn't be able to garden at all this year, I am happy to report that not only am I gardening, but it is expanding to about 2-3 times what it was! Now I am battling slugs and the unseasonably cold wet weather. I will take it, though!

This is the leg of a Bug that has been hard at work making "concoctions" for the homestead. Note the dirt smears and the sparkles. I don't know what they do, but she is very serious about her work, so I think they're quite important. Do you use "concoctions" where you are?

I got some more seeds planted today. I pulled back the leaves and sprinkled on some red radish seeds. I covered them with 1/2" of potting soil since using the existing soil would have been laughable! When I get a minute I am going to put some Sluggo around the area so I will actually be able to harvest something and when they sprout, I will push the leaves back in close for a mulch.

Yesterday, The Bug 'helped' me plant seeds. Swiss chard (because I realized that I can't grow spinach to save my life and baby chard is pretty close enough), red lettuce, basil, dill, borage, cerinthe, maybe something else I don't remember but will recognize when it comes up. I need to get more popcicle sticks to label things!

Oh, I also found a bag of red potatoes growing quite happily that I decided to stick on the ground where squash is going to go later. Grow, taters, grow!

Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of food, and may also involve the small scale production of textiles, clothing, and craftwork for household use or sale.
