Leave civilization and the rat race behind when you join the kayak and picnic lunch excursion while docked in Juneau, Alaska. Please note that the departure time is set according to when your ship arrives. The operator will assign a time that fits best. After meeting your guide at a convenient meeting point close to your Juneau cruise terminal, you’ll be driven about 1-hour by van to the Tongass N
ational Park - the largest national park in the U.S. You’ll be at the edge of the park where the temperate rain forests border the coastal vegetation. First is a gentle paced 30-minute hike through the world's second-largest rain forest to the small harbor where the kayaks are located. Please note the special restrictions and notes as this excursion has strict requirements and is not suitable for everyone. A wide variety of wildlife makes the area home including mountain goats, Sitka black-tailed deer, bald eagles, and ravens. The forest is made up of a large percentage of cone-bearing trees such as hemlock, and spruce. Western red cedar, yellow-cedar, and shore pine make up most of the rest. Along the shore you’ll find muskeg or peat bog, a spongy growth made up of dead leaves and plants. Before heading out in your kayak, you will receive a safety briefing from your guide. The kayaks are shared 2-person. Your guide will lead you out on your adventure paddling along the Pacific coast by the volcanic greenstone beaches and wild shoreline for approximately 2.5 hours. You may see eagles, sea lions, seals, sea otters, and more during your paddle. Back at the campsite, you can warm up around the campfire and enjoy a delicious picnic of local dishes. In collaboration with Alaskan Food Producers from Girdwood, Sitka, Juneau, and Klawok, an exclusive menu was developed so that you can enjoy Alaska grown, harvested and produced delicacies. The menu changes daily but can include smoked salmon, locally grown greens, geoduck, Alaskan Birch syrup, kelp salsa, and Sitka Spruce Tips. The menu includes dairy, fish, shellfish, and nuts. This trip is not advised for clients with extensive dietary restrictions and/or severe food allergies. You will have approximately 1 hour to enjoy your picnic. At the end of this fantastic day, you’ll board the van again back to your Juneau cruise ship port.
