While today isnā€™t a throwback Thursday I canā€™t help look back at how far these guys have came in such a short time. This is the Jā€™s in basic training at the ā€œdevil stageā€ of a puppies life. Now to look in front of me down the trail at them charging alongā€¦. Wow. And not even 2 years old yet! šŸ¤Æ Next year Iā€™ll be racing them! šŸ¤Æ šŸ¤Æ šŸ¤Æ

Hey! Guess what! We just passed our vet checks for the 550 that starts a week from today! We want to give a huge thanks to the vets and volunteers that made it all happen. Our team is part of a study with Cornell University, so there were urine samples and blood draws aplenty. Exciting stuff! And a big thanks also to Dr. Joanne McCrea for doing some chiropractic adjustments and even acupuncture prior to our checksā€¦doggies are feeling good!

šŸ“ø by: Whitney McLaren, Jeremy and team during Copper Basin

01/23/2023

PHOTOGRAPHER SPOTLIGHT: Whitney McLaren. It is hard to describe how deep our appreciation for her is. She is not only beyond talented and incredible in everything she does, she also works harder than any photographer I have ever met in my life. I could add ā€œbragging about Whitneyā€ to one of my favorite pastimes during the race.. She WILL ALWAYS dive through snow, freeze outside in steady position for who knows how long and chase our mushers down for days without sleep just to get the best possible shot. I am beyond thankful to have the opportunity to work with her during this race and more importantly I have respect and admiration for her as an artist and a person. Keep killing it, Whitney. šŸ¶šŸ¤—ā„ļø

Fun fact: Whitney gets so uncomfortable when you try to give her a compliment that she will blush and get all awkward.. Itā€™s gold. šŸ¤“

We love you here at the CB300 Whitney and are so happy to have you be a part of our race family! šŸ•šŸ•šŸ•

Make sure to support Whitney by purchasing photos after the race and checking out what other cool packages she has to offer at www.mushingphotos.com

I just got word that the team passed their vet checks (thanks for looking over the kids, Dr. Pinto!)ā€¦so we are ready for the bib draw tonight and onto the race! In the meantimeā€¦

šŸ¾ RAINY šŸ¾
Rainy is another sibling of Blueberry and Boulder and has really stepped up her game this season! At three years old, sheā€™s been a little slower in maturing, but has become quite the superstar the last couple months. Real steady in the team, she recently took to running in lead as well! Still gets a little distracted, so I donā€™t expect her to run up front in the race. But if sheā€™s anything like Momma Mocha, she may be leading at the starting line in a couple years! Rainy is super sweet and is very laid back when sheā€™s at her house or waiting on the line to run. But let her loose to run around and play and she gets wild! Her favorite time is play time with her sisters as they tear around through the woods and field chasing each other. Once in the team, she is very serious. Rainy is Grandma Toniā€™s favorite, so we are hoping she runs hard for her! Also a first time mid-distance racer, we will see how she handles the pressures of a multi-day adventure. Go get ā€˜em, Rainy Rose!

What a Sweetie!

What a Sweetie!

With Copper Basin coming up in about a week, we thought we would start introducing the team to you! First upā€¦.
šŸ¾ SAVAGE šŸ¾
This guy is the youngest on the team (by a few hours, ha!)ā€¦a little over a year and a half old! Savage almost didnā€™t make it as a newborn pup. After his two brothers were born, Savage was stuck and momma Velocity needed a C-section. When Dr. Rouge got this final pup out, the vet techs had to put some work into getting him breathing and werenā€™t sure he was going to make it. Thank the Lord, he did! The first thing he did (since Velocity was still in surgery) was start sucking on his brotherā€™s ear looking for milk šŸ¤£ This beautiful boy will make his mid-distance debut in one of the toughest out there. He loves to eat and has an awesome trot. Not to mention heā€™s super sweet and mighty handsome. Letā€™s go, Savage!

Many thanks to all of the volunteers out there!

Look at this cutie!

While this is NOT the surprise we are waiting to share with you all (great guesses by the way šŸ˜‚), we ARE racing today! We decided last minute to run our local Solstice race here in Two Rivers to get our younger dogs some experience. While we arenā€™t necessarily going to ā€œraceā€, this will be good training for our two yearlings, Wesson and Savage, and a few other guys that are a little older and have never racedā€¦Blueberry, Rainy, Laci, and Boulder. The race is twenty miles, but once we reach the finish line, Iā€™ll keep moving down the trail to get in a longer run and then circle back home. We will try and update you later on our run! You can also check out Two Rivers Dog Mushers page to see if they have photos or updates! Letā€™s wish the kids who have never raced before the best of luck šŸŽŠ
