Unity Village Central Mirror Pools
Friday Featured Fountain
The Fountains of Unity Village
Location: 1901 NW Blue Parkway, Unity Village, MO
Dedicated: 1950s
Step into Unity Village and prepare to be dazzled by the largest fountain installation in all of Kansas City, stretching out to the length of a football field! Picture this: at the heart of it all lies the central courtyard, where not one, not two, but three magnificent mirror pools shimmer across an impressive 14,090 square feet – that's nearly a third of an acre!
But wait, it gets even better! Towering over the grandest fountain is the awe-inspiring Venetian-inspired Bridge of Faith – the star of the show and a hotspot for weddings!
And that's not all! Venture to the courtyard's eastern end and discover a hidden gem: a raised bowl fountain surrounded by the enchanting Rose Garden, which has been in full bloom since 1952.
Mission Hills City Hall Fountain
Friday Featured Fountain
Mission Hills City Hall Fountain
Location: 6300 State Line Road, Mission Hills KS
Dedicated: Rebuilt 2006
Located proudly in front of Mission Hills City Hall on State Line Road, this fountain is a true testament to timeless elegance. Picture it: a low brick wall forming a rectangular basin, inviting you to step into its tranquil embrace.
Originally adorned with two grand bubblers, this fountain received a makeover in 2006, emerging even more enchanting than before. Now, at each end, three graceful water jets dance in harmony, adding a touch of whimsy to its serene setting.
But the pièce de résistance? It's none other than "The Spring" – a captivating sculpture nestled in the heart of the basin. Crafted from an original model by Rafaello Romanelli, using the intricate lost wax method, this masterpiece depicts a nude boy atop a snail. Picture this: water playfully sprays from the snail's antennae onto the boy's feet as he dances his way through the droplets.
It's a scene straight out of a fairy tale, bringing a dash of magic to the everyday hustle and bustle. So, next time you find yourself passing by Mission Hills City Hall, take a moment to soak in the beauty of this fountain – where art and nature intertwine in perfect harmony.

Shirley Bush Helzberg Garden of the Stars Fountain
Friday Featured Fountain:
Shirley Bush Helzberg Garden of the Stars Fountain
Location: Swope Park, Starlight Theatre, KCMO
Dedicated: 1977
Nestled next to the Kansas City Zoo in Swope Park at the entrance to Starlight Theatre, this fountain is like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered! Step inside and let yourself be whisked away by the serene beauty of this mesmerizing beauty!
Picture this: ten cascades dancing between eleven charming red brick columns, creating a symphony of water and wonder. And oh, the pool below! With over two dozen vertical jets in varying heights, it's like a whimsical water ballet fading into the horizon.
Standing tall at 20 feet, these columns are more than just pillars – they're guardians of this aquatic paradise. And get this: the entire fountain stretches out to a whopping 180 feet! That's longer than a blue whale, folks!
But here's the cherry on top of this fountain fantasy: it's all thanks to the generosity of Barnett and Shirley Helzberg, the brilliant minds behind Helzberg's Jewelers. Shirley Bush Helzberg, the president of the Starlight Theatre Association from '91 to '94, poured her heart into making this dream a reality with a jaw-dropping $1 million donation.
So, next time you're strolling through Swope Park or catching a show at Starlight Theatre, be sure to pay a visit to this aquatic masterpiece. Who knows, you might just find yourself lost in a sea of stars!

Ilus Davis Park & Fountain
Location: E 11th St & Locust St, KCMO
Installed: 2001
Named after Mayor Ilus W. Davis, a pivotal figure in Kansas City's 1960s growth and development, the park enhances the city's government district, known as the civic mall, situated in downtown's northeast quadrant. Featuring a sizable shallow reflecting pool, a petite fountain feeding into it, and resilient landscaping such as flower beds, shrubs, and over 350 trees—including majestic red oaks and ginkgoes—the park provides a serene retreat amidst urban bustle. Additionally, the park commemorates the sacrifices of city employees, particularly firefighters and police officers, with four granite pillars serving as memorials. Future enhancements include the establishment of a "First Amendment podium" for public discourse and relocation of the Bill of Rights monument to the park's northeast corner.
