Here is a snap shot of my Kajukenbo lineage. I’m listed twice. One on my first Kajukenbo Black Belt under Chuck Stevenson where I learned the Emperado Method, hard style Kajukenbo. I then left GM Stevenson. One of the main reasons for this was that he could not give me any more knowledge. For me it was all about always gaining more knowledge. Never stop learning. I then went to GGM Sifu Al Dela Cruz where I learned Kajukenbo Chu’an Fa Kung-Fu, soft style Kajukenbo. Sifu Al was all about sparring towards the ending of every class. I became more well rounded and a better fighter.
On the bottom right corner the picture shows my name with all the Black Belts that I created. Under the FKJ Club not only will the student learn the hard and soft style to Kajukenbo. They will also learn the basics to Kali and Ground Grappling. To keep up with the ever evolving game of mixed martial arts. One should know more on weaponry and the ground tactics.
There are some names of my Black Belts that still need to be added to the list. I need to contact the Kajukenbo Tree Keeper to make this happen, SGM Philip Gelinas. Names to be added are Lubie Lagmay, Ren Mansilungan, Richard Partido, and Bernie Abarquez. His daughter Rheean Abarquez will be promoted to Kajukenbo Black Belt at this year’s Club Christmas Party come December.

Our Kajukenbo Tree is getting bigger and bigger every year. It’s is huge! Some famous UFC fighters that are listed on this tree are Chuck Liddell, Sage Northcutt and Glover Teixeira.
My last copy purchased was 2023. The Tree is maintained by SGM Philip Gelinas aka Sled Dog a certified Dog Brother.
The following names are all Kajukenbo Black Belts from all over the world. In one of the pictures I show the Founder, Co-Founders and First Generation.

Make up practice on a Thursday evening in the garage. Weather still bad at times outside. Small group of students going over combinations with the boxing gloves and mitts. Worked a handful of kicking combinations with the kicking shield. Went over some hubud (block, pass, trap) knife drills. Finished off with open hand and padded knife free sparring.

ABOUT BURTON RICHARDSON
Burton Richardson started training martial arts in 1979 and he has never stopped. He was lucky to take his first lessons at the original Kali Academy, home of martial arts greats Sifu Richard Bustillo and G**o Dan Inosanto.

Burton traveled the world extensively to pursue his passion. He trained in Manila under Grandmaster Antonio Ilustrisimo, Master Tony Diego, and Master Christopher Ricketts. He's visited Brazil to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has trained extensively with many top BJJ exponents, including the Machado Brothers, Carlson Gracie, Baret Yoshida, Charuto Verissimo, and Marcelo Garcia. Burton has even journeyed to South Africa several times to train with Zulu warriors in their method of stick fighting.
Burton's constant quest for self improvement and continued research has most recently led him to earn his black belt in Krav Maga.
This broad spectrum of experience gives Burton a unique perspective on the arts. Civilians as well as Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) seek his training courses.

Burton is the author of 5 books. He wrote for Inside Kung Fu magazine for eleven years. He has been published in Budo Magazine, an international publication as well as other national publications such as Ultimate MMA. He was elected self defense instructor of the year by Black Belt Magazine and inducted into their hall of fame.

Burton currently lives in Hawaii with his wife, business and training partner Sarah Badat-Richardson and their daughter Talina-Queen. All three are passionate about realistic self defense training. They travel as a family to teach seminars worldwide.

My Kajukenbo Great Grandmaster Sifu Al Dela Cruz 👊🏼

Kajukenbo Chuan-Fa
Great Grand Master Alfred Dela Cruz first started martial arts training in Judo at 10 years old. At age 15, He took up boxing at the Aiea Boxing gym in 1957. In December 1957, he met a high ranking black belt named GM Sid Ascuncion. GGM Dela Cruz began training at GM Sid Ascuncion’s Kenpo Karate School In Kalihi in early 1958. GGM Dela Cruz received his black belt certificate from GM Sid Ascuncion in 1963.

In the early 1960’s, GGM Dela Cruz was introduced to Sijo Adriano Emperado by GM Sid Ascuncion. During the years between 1963 and 1970, GGM Dela Cruz and GGM Al Dacascos met with Sijo Emperado at a restaurant named Kau Kau Jr. on Nimitz Highway. GGM Al Dacascos was a cook at Kau Kau Jr. at the time and Sijo Emperado would stop by as the area was on his beat as a Honolulu Harbor Police Officer. Sijo Emperado would show GGM Dela Cruz and GGM Dacascos a lot of Kung Fu moves, as this was the BO(Chinese Boxing) in the KAJUKENBO System. The three would also meet frequently at Pier 7 and at the Ilikai Hotel to talk about Kajukenbo training and techniques, while having coffee and a bite to eat. In the mid 1970’s, Sijo Emperado advised GGM Dela Cruz to use the Chuan-Fa (Fist/Chinese Boxing) name, in his school name, so the school became the Kajukenbo Chuan-Fa Kung Fu School.

GGM Dela Cruz also became a Honolulu Police Officer in February 1971. He competed in boxing in three International Police Olympic Games:

1978 - San Diego, Bronze Medal
1980 - New York, Bronze Medal
1982 - Houston, Bronze Medal

GGM Dela Cruz also competed and won a Bronze medal in the 1984 International Police Olympic Games in Canada in Karate-Kumite. He retired from HPD on December 30, 1999. The very next day, he started as a Honolulu Police Reserve Officer, where he continues in that capacity to this day. He has 50 years of total service to the Honolulu Police Department.

Warmed up with everyone going over Forms 1-4. Demonstrations of our tournament Kajukenbo Combination and Kajukenbo Form 5. Open and Close Hand drills and our Elbows of Destruction. Finished with some Double Sticks Sinawali drills. All students went home with a Halloween goodie bag and coconut mochi. Big thanks to my wife FKJ Club’s number one supporter!

Black Belt training this afternoon with GGM Sifu Al Dela Cruz. On the months that has a fifth Sunday there will be just the few that will come and train. Once in a while Sifu Al will have a special guest instructor come over and share some knowledge. Today we were blessed with G**o Lee Manibog and some Escrima/Kali training single/double sticks and the knife. The Crab Style of Tobosa.
Sifu Al taught two different fist fighting drills and tells us the following:
Boxing - “KING OF THE FIST”
Kenpo - “LAW OF FIST”
Chuan-Fa - “FIST WAY”

I’m not really a belt type of guy. Lot of times we train not wearing our belts. However, I had one made for my club. Plain and simple.
Kung Fu 4 Less. com did an excellent job for a great price. I’ll have my assistant Black Belt Instructors bless it for me 👊🏼

Special afternoon today for 2 of my assistant instructors that has been with me from the beginning 2010. Maricelle and Sana received their Kajukenbo 7th degree black belt promotion today. I am so blessed to have both of them helping me run my small FKJ Club. Both of them have been training for many years and hold belt ranks in other type martial arts like Judo, Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Jeet Kune Do.
My GGM Sifu Al Dela Cruz blessed us with his presence today and gave us an hour workshop on some boxing / kickboxing drills. Another good friend of mine G**o Jay came by with another 1 workshop on the Piper Knife System. Totally awesome and dangerous!
Also, my 2 Escrima buddies Master Kim and Master Marcus swung by and joined us for the great training and delicious grinds. The students did an outstanding job trying to keep up with Sifu Al Dela Cruz and G**o Jay. Much Mahalos everyone 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Special evening for student Alexis today. Kajukenbo Purple Belt promotion. Big congratulations! She is doing a great job trying to learn all the Kajukenbo techniques and forms. Plus learning the art of Kali with single/double sticks, knife, and short sword. The goal is to learn all 12 weapons of Kali. Alexis is also doing great with all her ranges of sparring.
