Here are some key facts about the Tlingit culture ¹ ²:
- The Tlingit people reside in the southeastern Alaskan panhandle and nearby islands.
- They have a matrilineal society divided into two groups: the Yeił (Raven) and Ch’aak’ (Eagle or Wolf).
- Clan members inherit the right to display specific images called crests, which are symbolic pictures of animals, plants, celestial bodies, supernatural beings or natural landmarks.
- The Tlingit have a rich cultural life, often gathering for weddings, births, deaths, and other occasions.
- The Tlingit language, Łingít, has been spoken for thousands of years, but has declined in use since the 18th century due to oppression and assimilation efforts. There is currently a language revitalization effort in place.
- The Tlingit are skilled weavers, known for their Chilkat robes, which are made with complex, curving patterns and images of animals that represent clan histories and connections to land, sea and sky.

Salmon Falls Resort is one of many beautiful places to visit!
I been bringing customers out to this breathtaking Alaskan beauty since 2010.

Lately, my customers been wanting to see wildlife, Eagles and whales. I haven't had the chance to bring anyone here in the last two years.

If you're interested in a taste of heaven, Salmon Falls Resort added to the menu. Make a stop for a great dine in experience or to go orders off the delicious menu!

This year they have a new menu item called "Taste Of Alaska"
I talked with the Managing Director, Matt. They need 24 hour notice to experience the delightful food and beverage.

Some salmon, crab cakes, beer or wine with dessert! Oysters are extra. I'm sure there's more but that's all I was able to jot down.

As we drive along Ketchikan waterfront, I'll be talking about some history and current events to and from Salmon Falls. The wait time is included in this package of $425.

$425 for the car, up to 5 people plus $70 a person for the "Taste of Alaska "

If you want to see an absolutely beautiful view with friends or family, a Special day to celebrate any event, this would be the ideal trip in Ketchikan!

Call or email me if you have questions!!

Good Morning Beautiful People.

If you are walking around to see Ketchikan, I recommend all our museums.

Tongass Historical Museum, located near Creek Street.

Totem Heritage Center, located near our city park.

Discovery Center, near the lumberjack show.

All three locations have great history of Ketchikan, culture and salmon.

I'm pretty happy to have fond memories growing up in Ketchikan. Life was good as a child.

Ketchikan’s Tunnel Turns 70

The precursor to Water Street was a 10-foot-wide wooden boardwalk on pilings that skirted the rocky outcropping separating downtown Ketchikan from all points north. Incrementally, the walkway expanded into a narrow wood planked road wide enough to accommodate early automobiles. As the community grew, so did the need to expand north and south of downtown. The widening of Water Street, also known as the Waterfront Arterial project, was one of Ketchikan’s most ambitious construction projects.

Between 1953 and 1954, Tongass Avenue from Talbot’s Building Supply to the intersection with Grant Street was widened and reinforced. The project also included the excavation of a 275’ long by 19’ high tunnel, as well as an arterial road around the tunnel. Disruption of pedestrian and automobile traffic in the downtown area was as bad as road construction is today. To alleviate traffic congestion and parking issues, City administration installed a temporary light to regulate the flow of traffic around the tunnel, assigned a phone number for people to call for road closure updates, and increased police patrols. The system was not perfect, but it allowed for continuous use while the street was improved.

The tunnel reached Grant Street in January 1954 and officially opened to traffic by fall of that year. This month’s featured artifact is a photograph taken on April 3, 1954 showing the rock cut and construction efforts from the north portal of the tunnel. It comes from a scrapbook created by the City of Ketchikan’s Public Works department documenting the road project.

Good Morning Beautiful People

Book your educational tour with a local.
Let me bring you back in time when I was a child growing up in Ketchikan!

Our community gone through many changes. Logging days, spruce mills were in full swing. There use to be about 40 bars in town at one time!
The docks were made of our Lumber, we had no street lights and we had no corporate stores... all family owned and operated.
We had maybe a '76 Gas station! It use to be by the Basic Transportation lot.

To find local shops for jewelry or arts and crafts, visit Julie's, Crazy Wolf Studio and Cape Fox store by the tunnel.

Explore my home, I'm from the a tlingit and haida tribes!

Growing up in Ketchikan, it is one of many things that were familiar to us as locals.
The busy days of the logging industry. Who knew that one day those days would forever be a memory.

When I was little, my family and I would drive to Ward Lake, as many locals would in the summer.
I'd always see empty or full log trucks.
The Cove would be filled with logs and tug boats.
Many people arrived here to earn a good living. Like alot do with the ships to give tours or seasonal employment.

I think back of many changes of Ketchikan. A true local with my own history of Growing up here.

Childhood was pretty fun. In fact, my sister and I had the pleasure of bringing a family on a tour. Found out this person lived here until she was 9 years old. She spoke of her memory and in return, it brought me back to my younger years too.

To give tours, it's a blessing for me. Customers fill my life with happiness.

Experience our culture and history in Ketchikan.
I focus educational experiences of our medicinal and edible plants as well.
I sometimes bring customers to enjoy the beaches to have a change of pace. I don't engrave my tours in stone. I want all tours to be a pleasant experience.
When I bring my customer to the forest, you'll be informed of ancestral history of our culture.
I help you identify what is in the forest that we make use of.
We have our own Vitamin C, pain relievers and some help fight coughs, cold and flu.

Join me on a adventurous tour with a true local!

Teresa and her family.
She moved away from Ketchikan when she was 9 years old. Attended White Cliff school and lived in Austin Towers.
Known as Tongass Towers.

She talked about a friend and stores she visited when she was young. She remembered the covered play groups at White Cliff, walking home and visiting her friend.

What an incredible moment I had listening to her stories.
