Are you a Buffett fan? If the answer is yes, then your Key West walking tour should include Louie's Backyard (or anyone who wants a great meal). I recommend the upstairs seating, where they don't take reservations.)

It's located at 700 Waddell Avenue and The Afterdeck Bar at Louie's is what Jimmy was referencing in Trying to Reason when he says “I knew I could use a Bloody Mary, so I stumbled next door to the bar”.

He routinely continued to visit the restaurant with his sisters and his memorial party was held here.

B.O.'s Fish Wagon might look like a pile of junk from afar, but it's been featured by Bobby Flay and was a hangout for the Coral Re**er Band for many years. You should have seen what it looked like when Jimmy Buffett visited on an episode of The Today Show in 1986! An actual tiny little shack.

People love their cracked conch sandwiches and grouper sandwiches. FYI...now BYOB only (get some to go from Pepe's across the street)

The most special season is just beginning in Key West!

Lights are lit, and homes and porches are decorated in the best way. Parades, festivals and parties are coming!

And to top this off, the long range weather forecast is just about perfect.

If you have an upcoming trip and don't know what to expect, the next few weeks will still be relatively quiet, but beginning sometime around the 19th, that's all going to change. The town would be busy! Then busier! Then 🔥 Week ensues. It's all good. You are in Key West! Have the best time!

📢New cocktail bar alert!

The Sky Bar is the latest outside venue to watch the sun disappear. You can make a late day visit to the Southernmost Point and head on over! They are just a block apart. It's located at The Mansion on the Sea and the menu pays special attention towards tequila! 🍹

If you are hungry, the Seaside Cafe is at ground level. (Lobster Pizza or coconut shrimp?) 🍕🍤

(I attempted to check out Sky Bar myself a couple of weeks ago, but arrived just a little too early in the day, so I'm really excited to visit for a sunset birthday week drink in a couple of weeks! ) 🎂

Irish Kevin's is up there as one of the most entertaining places in Key West! You really never know what's going to happen up on that stage. Many of the singers are known to invite audience members up on stage to participate in crazy shenanigans!

Oh, and they have excellent air conditioning!

Here are some of my favorite things to do in Key West. I've probably left some out!

🌴 Watching the charters return with their catch and seeing them clean the fish at A&B Marina. The Tarpon go crazy!
🌴Fort Zachary Taylor Beach is the best in my book ...bring a picnic and grab a table, too!
🌴Watch people try to throw a quarter into the fish at Captain Tony's. Then take a turn!
🌴 Dessert to go from Moondog Cafe ... Their pastry case is beautiful!
🌴 Wander through the cemetery. It's really an interesting place.
🌴Thursday Farmer's market on the Truman Waterfront is a don't miss.
🌴Exploring the side streets, especially those way off the beaten path.
🌴 Monday night bingo at the Green Parrot
🌴Sunset at the Truman Waterfront
🌴Walking around the harbor in the morning with a cafe con leche. 5 Brothers is my choice.
🌴Kayaking in the mangroves. You can rent and go on your own or do a guided tour.

Should we bring our kids with us to Key West?" This question comes up all the time because Key West is often known as an adult playground. There is so much more to this island beyond Duval Street at night!!!

Here are some fun things to do and places to eat with kids/teens of all ages in Key West.

So many other, too!

🌴 Lloyd's bike tour is not your typical tour. He takes you off the beaten track and finds different types of fruits you can sample.
🌴Visit The Monroe County Sheriff’s Animal Farm on 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month. This is a really special place that rescues all types of animals. If you are able to visit, do not miss!
🌴Visit the Butterfly Conservatory and say hello to the friendly flamingoes.
🌴Peak Charters has family-friendly boat excursions. You can choose to go fishing, go to the sandbar for a fun day in the water with some snorkeling or look for dolphins and sea turtles. They will cook you a cheeseburger in Paradise!
🌴Ride the Conch Tour Train or free Duval Loop bus and see all the sights before deciding what else you want to do.
🌴 Rent fishing gear and catch a big one at the Truman Waterfront Park
🌴Feed the Tarpon at the A&B Marina
🌴Look for iguanas in the cemetery (it's really a cool cemetery!)
🌴 Go on a ghost tour. They have different levels of scariness.
🌴 Hold a family competition with the co****le games at Rams Head Southernmost
🌴Go to the playground or hit the volleyball nets at Higgs Beach (under renovation until June 2024)
🌴Hang out at the arcade at the Waterfront Brewery
🌴Mallory Square at Sunset
🌴Picnic and explore the fort at Fort Zachary Taylor Beach and Park
🌴 Climb to the top of the Key West lighthouse.
🌴Splash pad at Truman Waterfront
🌴Create a daily scavenger hunt and photograph your finds
🌴Check out the really cool Shipwreck Museum or Aquarium at Mallory Square
🌴 Kayaking tours in the mangroves are fun and interesting. They will teach you how to paddle.

A few kid-friendly restaurants:
🍝Mangia Mangia... Lots of choices of fresh pasta and they offer half portions. You can even watch them make it during the day!
🌮Moondog Cafe...the back patio is so fun and colorful
🍔Waterfront Brewery (they also have an arcade!)
🍗Two Friends' Patio reasonably priced kids' menu and delicious frozen cocktails for the adults!
🌮Rams Head Southernmost... Awesome menu with a large menu.
🐟Conch Republic Seafood Company...fun atmosphere on the water. Cool aquarium!
🌮El Siboney..Huge menu with lots of options for kids
🍕 Little Whitehouse Subs has a large selection!

The cafe con leche from locally-owned 5 Brothers is a "must try"! A medium with 2 sugars is perfection.

They are located at the corner of Grinnell and Southard... Slightly off the beaten path, but worth the walk! Save this address!

Their breakfast sandwiches, Cuban sandwiches and fried chicken sandwiches are delicious, too!

And The White Tarpon knows how to shake up a delicious one! But watch out... they can be dangerous, too. Don't let the vortex get you.

Sangria and tapas are are ready and waiting for you!

Santiago's Bodega is always on the top of my recommendation list. This popular restaurant has a terrific happy hour with $7 tapas and drink deals, daily dinner specials and delicious sangria ( I love the red sparkling variety)!

This is one place you'll definitely want to put on your "must do" list!

They don't require reservations, but I recommend them for happy hour because it's pretty popular as well as on weekends.
