Know what you’re buying. This picture has store beef(right), and farm beef(left). There is an obvious visible difference between the two but the differences don’t stop there!

1. You may notice the color difference in the picture. The store bought is pumped full of additives and preservatives, including propyl gallate, to protect against spoilage due to long term air exposure.

2. There isn’t a guarantee of where that beef came from, OR how many cows are in it.

Yes, it may have the USDA label on it but as long as that animal was packaged in the US, it can be called a Product of the USA.

And yes, the meat in the right package is not from one single cow, rather scraps from up to two thousand cows. It may have come from Argentina, Canada, or Brazil.

3. The beef on the left is fresher, darker and is farm raised beef. It is filled with more nutrients & flavor. The ground is also from one cow and not just low quality scraps from multiple cows.

Buy local!

A good reminder....There are so many additives in commercial meat. There can be parts from up to 2,000 animals, from all over the world, in grocery store and restaurants ground beef.

Know what you’re buying. This picture has store beef(left), and farm beef(right). There is an obvious visible difference between the two! But the differences don’t stop there!

1. You may notice in the picture the color difference. The store bought is pumped full of additives and water. There isn’t a guarantee of where that beef came from either. Yes, it may have USDA label on it but as long as that animal was packaged in the US, it can be called a Product of the USA. The meat in the package is not from one single cow, rather scraps from multiple cows. It could have came from Argentina, Canada, or Brazil.

2. The beef on the right is darker and is farm raised beef. It is filled with more nutrients & flavor. The ground is also from one cow and not just scraps from multiple cows.

3. Buying your beef from a local Farmer/Rancher you are helping to buy a little girl dance shoes or a little boy baseball gear. Buying from the store just lines the pockets of the already wealthy meat packers. Let’s help each other. We help you eat healthy, you help us provide for our families.

Buy from a local ranch/farm!

Beautiful well marbled Ossobuco (meaty soup bones) with home grown rosemary. These are amazing! I cook them in a slow cooker for 8 hours. The meat shreds by itself!
I used the Olive Garden Chianti braised short rib recipe. I substituted the short ribs for Ossobuco. This was delicious!

Copied from Country Ayre Farms, LLC :

What is it like to be a farmer’s daughter, or son? To wear the label of “farm kid”? Being one myself, I can tell you it changes throughout your life time.

Your first memories will be of cows and tractors. You will know the sweet smell of the milk the calf eagerly drinks, the softness of their hair as you push your face into their necks and the roughness of their tongues as they mistake your fingers for ni***es. You will know the smell of diesel fuel and soil, often as it’s owned combined fragrance and be able to recall the vibration of the tractor seat you share with your dad while he lets you steer. There will be memories of tires on plastic as you “help” cover the silage pile. Meals brought to fields. The first time you see a calf be born. You will wonder why everyone doesn’t have a cow in their yard or a tractor in their driveway. The early years will be full of all that is special about being a farm kid.

And then you will realize the sacrifice that comes from your family’s chosen profession. You will notice your dad (or mom) doesn’t always make it to dinner, games or Christmas morning. You will notice the hushed conversations of adults talking about things like weather, milk prices, fuel prices and other bills and feel the worry. Because you are a teenager the sacrifice will be a burden and may breed resentment, even in the most resilient of farm kids. Who wants to toss hay on a warm summer day when their friends are at the lake? Who wants to try to hide the smell of cow manure with perfume or cologne because they had to work before they went to the basketball game with their friends? Why can’t their parents just leave the barn and not worry about a sick cow, whether the rain is coming, the payment that is due?

But then something magical will happen. You will be able to see all the farm gave you, all the experiences that are unique only to farm kids. You will hear the compliments on your work ethic in school, in sports, in 4H. You will see the farm through the eyes of visitors, friends, teachers and hear their astonishment at what your family does, see the excitement for the cows and tractors. You will find other farm kids and compare stories, realizing that you are not alone. You will be able to listen to the tough conversations and know the stories of how your family business survived the hard times. You will work beside grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings. You will share the laughter and the tears. And even if you don’t make the farm your full time occupation, even if the farm is no longer there, your heart will still be that of a farm kid. It will swell with a love and pride that only a farm kid knows when you talk of your days doing chores, of your time spent with family, of the precious lessons learned that shaped you into the person you are today. And you will realize the greatest gift is getting to be a farm kid.

Cows are amazing!

I’ve said it before but I am saying it again 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Can we please stop using the words "plant-based" as if that phase has some magical health benefits?! Or as if it is anything more than a trendy marketing gimmick?

Is it just me or is "plant-based" or "powered by plants" on every.single.damn.thing?! From food to skincare to shampoo to protein powder and more.

The protein powder one always makes me laugh. You need protein? Try a good ol' fashion steak with a glass of ice cold milk. SMDH.

Sticking a "plant-based" label on some overly processed foods does not make it healthy. And I think eating some vegetables would probably do my skin more good than putting "plant-based" lotion on it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Not everything in my life needs to be a salad.

Alright, back to your day. Just needed to get that off my chest. End rant. 😂

“Farm work doesn’t make you stronger. It doesn’t make you anything. It reveals you.
There’s gym strong and then there’s farm strong. They’re mutually exclusive. The toughest women you’ll ever meet spend their days on a farm.

There are more uses for twine than you can possibly imagine. You can tie up a hole in a slow feeder, fashion a tail strap for a horse’s blanket, mend a broken fence and use it as a belt.

“Well that certainly didn’t go as planned,” is one thing you’ll say quite a bit.
Control is a mere illusion. The thought that you have any, at any given time, is utterly false.
Sometimes sleep is a luxury. So are lunch and dinner. And brushing your hair.

If you’ve never felt your obliques contract, then you’ve never tried stopping an overly full wheelbarrow of horse manure from tipping over sideways. Trust me, you’ll find muscles that you never knew existed on the human skeleton to prevent this from happening.

When one of the animals is ill, you’ll go to heroic lengths to minimize their discomfort.
Their needs come first. In summer heat and coldest winter days. Clean water, clean bed, and plenty of feed. Before you have your first meal, they all eat.

When you lose one of them, even though you know that day is inevitable, you still feel sadness, angst and emotional pain from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. And it’s a heaviness that lingers even though you must regroup and press on.
You’ll cry a lot. But you’ll never live more fully. You’ll remain present no matter what because you must. There is no other option.
You’ll ask for so many miracles and hold out hope until the very last.

You will, at least once, face-plant in the manure pile. You’ll find yourself saying things like, “we have maybe twenty minutes of daylight left to git ‘er done” whilst gazing up at a nonspecific place in the sky.
You’ll become weirdly obsessive about the weather.
You’ll go out in public wearing filthy clothes and smelling of dirt, sweat and p**p. People will look at you sideways and krinkle their noses but you won’t care.
Your entire day can derail within ten seconds of the rising sun.
You can wash your coveralls. They won’t look any cleaner, but they will smell much nicer.

Farm work is difficult in its simplicity.
You’ll always notice just how beautiful sunrises and sunsets really are.
Should you ever have the opportunity to work on a farm, take the chance! You will never do anything more satisfying in your entire life.”

“I always see your kids working so hard, how do you do it? I can’t get mine to do anything.” I’ve heard it a million times. My kids weren’t given a choice. This is how they grew up. As soon as they were old enough to work, they were given responsibilities. No one had time to stand over them and make sure it was done right. They learned to try to solve a problem before asking for help because help might not come. We never sheltered them. They have witnessed new life in calves and crops, they have held a beloved cows head in their arms as she took her last breath and watch hundreds of acres of corn whither and die. They have shared our pride and heard too many conversations about money. It’s never been a matter of “getting” them to do something, they just do it. And on warm summer nights, I like to think that they are proud of their sore hands as they walk away from a full mow. In the spring, I hope they look at the pile of rocks and understand how important even the most menial jobs are, In the fall, when they stand on the full feed bunks, I know they realize what all the work was for. And in the winter, when they are shucking off wet gloves and heavy bibs, my wish is that they are thankful for growing up on a farm, as thankful as I am for raising them this way. ❤️🐄🇺🇸

A gallon of milk weighs 8.6 lbs
It takes 10lbs whole milk to make 1 lb cheese
It takes 20lbs whole milk to make 1 lb butter
It takes 12lbs whole milk to make a gallon icecream
One cup of milk will make a cup of yogurt

So even if your your not a big milk drinker if you can consume more of the other dairy products it will help your local farmers out.

While the Governor of Colorado declares today day, I stand with the animal Ag producers across the country for day!

Just a friendly PSA that BEEF is good for the planet and good for your body!.
🌎Cattle are upcycles and can turn inedible grass into nutritious beef.
💩Their manure is a great natural fertilizer.
🌱Grazing cattle can help preserve our grassland ecosystems.
🥩Beef is a nutrient dense, low calorie food.
🏋️‍♀️Beef is high in protein and can help with weight loss and building lean muscle.

Beef it's what's for dinner! Who else is having beef for dinner and what are you cooking?!.
