We are a family of 4 who live in Cary, North Carolina. Matt and I were both born and raised in Canada (in Ottawa and Halifax). Lucie and Felix were both born in North Carolina, and are dual citizens. Matt and I have been together for over half of our lives. We met at a science and technology camp for high school students, went to university together, lived together and traveled all over the world for awhile, and this year we celebrated our 13th year of marriage.
Both kids have traveled internationally before their first birthdays - Lucie to France, and Felix to Australia. We learned early on that staying in hotels with kids was not that enjoyable. Once they went to bed, our night was over, too. Meals at restaurants with young kids take such a long time, and they burn out pretty quickly. We started renting vacation homes instead, and found our trips to be much more enjoyable.
We bought our first vacation home in the mountains of Virginia in the Wintergreen Resort area. We loved having an escape to get to but also loved sharing our place with others so that they could enjoy making memories with their families. We love Disney and the times we share as a family there, so it seemed like a natural fit for our next vacation home. On a work trip to Orlando, Matt was able to visit some houses and he just had a feeling when visiting Windsor Hills that it was a place we would love as a family. He toured one villa and we both loved the fact that it was on a quiet street, had a playground and an open field across the street, a fun games room in the converted garage, all of which were features that appealed to us as parents to young children. Lucie took one look at the Harry Potter bedroom and insisted that this was the house for us. Just a few weeks later, Sunshine Memories Villa was born.
In the year and a half that we have owned and operated Sunshine Memories Villa, we have been blessed with the most amazing guests. My favorite part of it all is the personal connections we make with guests. Being able to help with their vacation plans, learn about special events in their lives, and share a space and an area that we truly love, we feel we bring a positive impact to our guests and their vacation planning.
