HISTORY
Florida historians believe this 9 bedroom, 9 bath home, was built in the 1920's by Hollywood Founder and Developer Joseph Young, and was named the Indiana Apartments. Devastated by hurricanes and The Great Depression the Young Company suffered financial collapse, and after his death in 1930, all assets and holdings were court appointed into receivership. The receiver believed that the
beach, and only the beach, was the land of value in this "Gawd foreseekin" swamp of mosquitoes, snakes and alligators. Around 1936, the Indiana was relocated from its original location believed to be 19th and Buchanan Street, near today's Little Flower Catholic Church on US 1. This historic home was purchased by a prominent Judge, and his wife and 3 daughters. For reasons unknown, the wife became the sole owner and began to operate an avant garde beach haven for the "beautiful people", the hipsters, poets and writers, bit actors and artists, pre beatniks and moochers calling the home The South Surf. One such writers was James Jones, who during the 1950's both visited and resided at this historic home. Jones, is the author of "From Here to Eternity", "The Thin Red Line" and other American classics. The judge's family sold the home to the Tozzi family in 1973,who used it as their home until the early 1990's. The Tozzi's then reverted the home back into its original 1920's usage, apartments. After years of neglect, vandalism, a few minor fires and hurricanes, the Tozzi's sold the home in 1998 to Dean Liotta who developed the Hollywood by the Sea Bed and Breakfast. From 2002 thru 2006, the B&B was a haven for visitors, friends and family. The B&B was sold in 2007, but returned to Dean on March 23, 2009. DRIVING DIRECTIONS
