☔Rainfall has been feast or famine this season.
From 8/03-8/20 (23 days): 10+ inches
From 8/21-9/19+ (29+ days): ~1 inch

Versus 30-day normal, that's +5.42 inches on 9/1 to -3.69 inches today. And we're looking pretty dry at least for another week. Picked a bad time to put down grass seed 😅

🏁🚤Things keep looking better & better for the next few days as the system we've been watching looks to set up further off the coast than it looked yesterday. Not going to rule out a sneaky shower on Friday, but overall, it's looking a few ticks warmer, less windy (typical breeze), and more sunny, so long as that system stays further East.

Things are looking a bit brighter for boat race weekend, but we'll need to get through this gloomy looking stretch first. Nothing to write home about rain-wise as we're only looking at a few sprinkles or a passing shower today and tomorrow with breezy conditions. It'll be mainly dry overall. Friday, there's a better chance for a steadier afternoon or evening shower, but again, primarily dry and breezy, with maybe even some breaks of sun.

For the weekend, I think we'll get increasing sun but with even windier conditions. And gone are the 80 degree days as we sit in the lower 70s this week, and upper 60s starting Sunday.

I know there's lots of excitement for the next round of boat races this weekend, so let's have a look ahead. Some guarantees: it won't be as warm as this past weekend (but not too cold); showers will at least be threatening (but not many): it will be windy.

A system will work its way up the coast mid-week, then back down, and linger near the Mid-Atlantic for days. The main rain threat comes Wednesday night-Thursday, but persistent on-shore flow means windy conditions, more clouds than sun, and scattered shower threats. Friday looks to have the greatest threat, with Saturday & Sunday currently looking to have a 10-25%/0.00-0.05" type threat. We'll see how it shakes out as the week progresses. I'd stay optimistic rain-wise at the moment.

⛲With the lake down to 8.90-8.91', only a trickle of water remains over the Hopatcong State Park dam, and the fountain is now at about full capacity (~12cfs).

Mother nature is making this too easy, and is giving us an absolutely perfect race weekend!

This will continue until next week, but as we get into the middle of next week, things start to get a bit more questionable as tropical moisture starts to meander up the east coast. Does it make it here or get suppressed south is still a question that needs answering.

😎🌤️For mid-September, it quite literally does not get much better than this! Should also make for a great crowd for the NJ Championships & Governors Cup boat races this weekend!

I've gotten a few inquiries pertaining to the dry weather and lake level. It's certainly going to drop, but luckily we're at a high enough starting point that we won't have any issues though at least the end of September. All in all, this is right around average for this time of year.

It's a bit of a foggy/cloudy start today, but we'll get some sun as the day progresses with average conditions. Tomorrow for the Live Run Give LLC LH Tri Challenge, things are looking mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun and water temps at 71-72 degrees. Conditions will be mainly dry, but there could be a passing 5-30 minute shower during the morning/early afternoon (0.00-0.02"). A more organized line of showers/storms moves in for 2-4pm and may linger into the evening.

Sunday will feature abundant sun and be equally cool, but it will feel much more chilly as a drier air mass moves into place. Then into next week.. ou boy.. did someone say Second Summer? 😎

⛲That spike in outflow from Lake Hopatcong into the Musconetcong River can only mean that the fountain at the Hopatcong State Park is coming alive again.

Based on the 730a reading, it's running at about 36% capacity, and should continue to be increased over the coming days.

Our chilly, tranquil stretch of weather continues with below normal temps dipping even more for the weekend, albeit under sunny skies.

Saturday for the Live Run Give LLC LH Triathlon, we've got some good conditions. We may start with some sun, but I'm leaning mostly cloudy. We will turn more windy into the late morning with air temps ranging in the 60s, and water temps near 70. There may be a muggy feel to the air, but nothing too bad.

This is ahead of a front that will bring showers/storms Saturday night. Perhaps one sneaks in late in the day on Saturday, but the main weather topic will be the wind. Nice weather continues until Sunday with air temps warming up to the upper 60s under mostly sunny skies with continued breezy conditions.

It may not feel like summer anymore, but perfect to get out and enjoy!
