Thursday morning I lost my mom.
Growing up she would tell me two things over and over again.
1. Get a good job with insurance. “Be able to support yourself and a baby if needed”.
By the age of 20, I had a career & job security. By 28 I had residual income with the homebase business and by 38 I started my own company. ✅
2. Travel. “Travel while you are young”.
I took this one to heart. ✈️
Being a mother myself, I understand we want our kids to do the things we didn’t get to do. We want them to be more successful than we are.
Starting a business in travel goes way deeper than just liking to plan Disney vacations. I’ve always felt like my mom was giving me direction in life whether she knew it or not. Her words were powerful and she always wanted the best for me.
Go On (Goon) Travel Co. wasn’t a coincidence. The palm tree in the logo is not a coincidence. I did it for her and I will continue to make her proud.
I grew up watching the travel channel with her, fantasizing about vacationing in tropical destinations. She loved palm trees, steel drum music, gambling in Vegas, sipping champagne in the France pavilion, trips to Disney with her grandkids, dancing in the kitchen to disco & motown and seeing her kids happy.
Some of my earliest childhood memories being from our family vacation when I was 4 on the Big Red Boat (The OG Disney Cruise) Land & Sea with a stay at Caribbean Beach Resort and visit to the parks.
My parents had 4 kids in private schools until we were 18. There wasn’t much money left over to travel often. I will cherish that one family trip until the day I die and keep taking my own kids on them so that they too have those memories.
I’ve always liked to think I live my life to the fullest, but this is just a reminder that life is way too short and too precious to waste worrying about stupid s**t.
Though my mom is no longer here in the physical world, I’m at peace knowing she gets to travel with me and share those experiences in spirit. ♥️🪽
Life is short! F**k it! Travel! Take the trip! Build the memories.
