Some honest thoughts having just returned from 2 weeks at Walt Disney World with my family.

1. The Magic is definitely still there! Lots of great interactions with Cast Members, the music, the smells, and the character appearances and cavalcades all add up to make for a great experience. There are LOTS of new CMs being trained and the majority of them are so happy to be there and to interact with you.
2. The lines are long, and not having FastPass or some comparable option is not sustainable for the parks. That said, the CMs do a great job moving you along and the estimates Disney is posting for the wait times are usually well over the actual wait time. For example, there was a posted 75 minute wait for Space Mountain and it wrapped around the Tomorrowland stage and back towards the Carousel of Progress. We were on the ride in less than 35 minutes. This was the case 90% of the time with exceptions being 7DMT, Smugglers Run, FOP and Slinky Dog Dash. The lines look much longer than you’ve ever seen before but they move quickly.
3. Mobile Order dining for Quick Service restaurants works great and should be permanent. Pickup windows were generally within 15 minutes of ordering at the prime lunch and dinner times. Not having to fight for seats once you get your food is such a refreshing change as you can’t enter the restaurants until your order is ready. HUGE fan of this new process.
4. We definitely missed having the chance to hug and get a signature from the characters.
5. We definitely missed having some of the shows, not just for the entertainment but also for the opportunity to sit out and cool off.
6. Lines for attractions will be so much better with 5 and 6 coming back.
7. Cavalcades should be permanent. I could see 1 big parade each day with cavalcades throughout the day the being a perfect plan.
8. Transportation was about the same as always. Buses were consistently inconsistent. Monorail was not that crowded, nor was the Skyliner, outside of park opening and closing. Masks on transportation was not a big deal.
9. Resorts were not crowded and felt very normal.
10. Park hopping worked great. The 2pm start time concerned me but based on the wait times for attractions, it was never an issue for us.
11. Hollywood Studios is crowded 7 days a week. Weekends were impossible to navigate Galaxy’s Edge. Epcot was very crowded on the weekends for Food & Wine. Future World was virtually empty everyday outside of Test Track. Not sure what they are going to do when Spaceship Earth closes for reimagining. Magic Kingdom was as crowded as prior years in the summer. Animal Kingdom was crowded in the mornings but pleasant after 3pm.
12. Disney Springs is open and enjoyable. Crowded on the weekends but not overwhelming.
13. I was really bummed at the early closings of the parks. MK and Epcot at 10pm, HS at 9pm and AK at 8pm. This is prime summer time and not being able to experience all of the parks after dark, especially Pandora was a major bummer.
14. Can’t wait for Harmonious. Epcot Forever was a big disappointment and only like 11 minutes long.
15. There were no protocols for social distancing at all. There were signs that unvaccinated guests had to wear masks indoors but there was no way to enforce that. Masks are now required indoors for everyone as of today.
16. Prices are really borderline absurd for food and beverage.
17. The Skyliner is an attraction in itself and as skeptical as I was on them not having air conditioning, they were very comfortable.
18. Despite being there for 2 weeks and having 9-day park passes, we struggled to get on all of the E-ticket attractions. Even though it seems like you need less planning now since all you have to do is get a Park Pass Reservation, I feel like you really need to plan out your days at each park in order to manage the time you are now going to wait at every attraction. I don’t mind waiting an extra 10 minutes on Living With the Land or It’s a Small World, but those extra times add up.
19. Who are these people waiting 30+ minutes for the Three Caballeros boat ride in Mexico? Of course that line was 10 minutes shorter than the line for La Cava del Tequila. Clearly Epcot needs more attractions right now so why are they waiting on Ratatouille?!
20. 2022 is going to be a great time to visit with so many new attractions on track to open.
21. I cannot wait to go back in Sept/Oct for the 50th Anniversary!!!
