Crucial message and call to action by Save Red Rock:
This Tuesday, October 4, at the Clark County Government Center, Commissioners will hear an application by Gypsum Resources for the first phase of a large scale housing development on top of Blue Diamond Hill in the middle of Red Rock Canyon. This phase alone is 429 houses.
This application not only appears to violate county code and previous legal agreements, it also requests access off of the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Byway, SR 159. Scenic Byway 159 is already struggling with rapidly increasing traffic and hazardous conditions.
Save Red Rock is requested anyone who can to wear a red shirt and attend the public meeting: Join us this Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89155, to call on County Commissioners to Keep Red Rock Rural and Protect the law! Please let the commissioners know how much you care.
For those of us concerned about property owner rights: But what about property owner rights?
Save Red Rock respects property owner rights and will never do anything to stop or delay property owners from developing according to their rights. However, it is our understanding that this application does not follow Clark County Development Code and the 2010 Settlement Agreement.
Small business impacts: This development would be determental to the numerous small businesses that operate outdoor adventure tours in RRC, Blue Diamond, and surrounding areas as well. This is one of the few places in the Las Vegas area where we can work in cooperation with the BLM & NFS to take our customers on hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, canyoneering, etc tours with an infrastructure available that provides minimal impact to the land and allows us to keep our Vegas visitors who wish to get outside safe. No tourist will want to pay for a outdoor adventure that is set among a housing development.
