Honestly it's all of these. I would hate to miss any of these stops.
-Maker's Mark is one of the most scenic distilleries in Kentucky and includes a great tasting at the end. Visit Star Hill Provisions after your tour for lunch and a cocktail.
-Independent Stave Company is the most widely used barrel manufacturer in Kentucky and has a great tour to show exactly how they're made. Head's up though, there's no bourbon to taste here.
-Log Still Distillery in Gethsemane is a brand new distillery doing really big things for their area. It's really impressive to see the scope of what they're doing.
-Wilderness Trail has some of the tastiest whiskey in Kentucky and their tour and relaxed atmosphere make you feel like you're family when you're there.
-Limestone Branch, makers of Yellowstone Bourbon, may be my absolute favorite distillery in Kentucky. Book a tour here, but leave an extra hour 2 after your tour to sit on the patio and throw the tennis ball to the dogs, sip cocktails from Minor's Lounge, or enjoy a cigar. You'll be treated as if you're family from the moment you walk in the door.

Chris' MUST SEE list for this loop:
-Bardstown Bourbon Company is one of the fastest growing distilleries in Kentucky and has a great restaurant on site as well as a well stocked bar and a fun patio area. They also have many different tour options that are well worth your time.
-Heaven Hill's new Bourbon Heritage Center is open and features some great tastings, a visit to an old rickhouse, and the opportunity for possible rare bottle purchases.
-Willett is right across the street from Heaven Hill. Make reservations here for lunch and order the Egg Salad Sandwich, then thank me later.

-If you can get into the "Speakeasy Tasting" at Evan Williams Experience, do it! The regular tour there is great too, but the Speakeasy is tough to beat.
-Peerless is an amazing brand with interesting history and some delicious whiskies.
-Rabbit Hole is more contemporary and even if you can't get a tour here, it's worth it to stop by and head up to the bar for a sample flight. On your way up there, you're able to see many different areas of their production all through large windows.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP: #1 of 4
There are so many great distilleries to check out in the middle of Kentucky, but how do you know where to go and how to plan your days while you're there? We've broken up all the major distilleries into 4 major geographical groups which we'll highlight in 4 different FB posts coming up. First is what we call the LAWRENCEBURG LOOP!

Eight distilleries in one day isn't impossible, but it's A LOT to do. Luckily a few of these are right next to each other. My recommendation is to reserve tours at 1 or 2 of these distilleries and pop into the gift shop of the others to shop for bottles and merchandise.

Chris' MUST SEE list for this loop:
-If you can get a tour at Buffalo Trace, don't miss it. Tours have to be made in advance about 2 months before your trip.
-Castle and Key is among the most beautiful distilleries in Kentucky, and they encourage you to wander around the distillery grounds.
-A trip to Wild Turkey always has the chance to bump into living legend, Jimmy Russell.
-Whiskey Thief has a very fun atmosphere unlike any in Kentucky. You guessed it, they let you thief whiskey out of their barrels!

Unfortunately, that's not the case and the distilleries are pretty spread out. Four Roses Distillery and Visitor's Center is 5.7 miles from our house, in Lawrenceburg, KY. Their Warehouse and Bottling Facility is in Cox's Creek, KY, which is 53 miles from our house. Just hit the one that's close to us, you'll enjoy it!

Starlight Distillery, located at Huber's Orchard and Winery, has become a stop Chris usually makes on his way to or from the bourbon trail. It's 4 hours from Waterloo, and 1:15 from our house, so it's a great place to stop and stretch your legs and grab lunch at their Starlight Cafe. Huber's Orchard and Winery is a lot like Eckert's Orchard in Belleville, IL. They do winery and distillery tours/tastings, have a "you pick" farm (seasonal), and a farm market (with lots of different cheeses). They're putting out some great products, and it's a great place to stop if you have time!

Our house is in Lawrencebrug, Kentucky, in the middle of the Bourbon Trail. It sleeps 8 people (with 6 beds) and is clean, cozy, and has a lot of charm! The winter months are a great time to visit the Bourbon Trail because (1) it's not crowded and you can get in tours easily and (2) you can stock up on Christmas gifts for the bourbon fans in your life!

Name change!
Larrikin Bourbon Company is formally known as Lawrenceburg Bourbon Company, they changed names a few months ago. They are only 1.6 miles from our house and are up the street from Wild Turkey. Honestly, we've never done their formal tour, we just stop in and enjoy their tasting area, and always have fun. They're owned by a Navy veteran (Greg) and Greg is usually there to talk to, or do the tasting. If you don't want a tour, just stop in for a drink. This is a really cool spot that not everyone knows about, you can thank us later for the pro tip!

The view from Wild Turkey is amazing! You can drive on the lower (grey) bridge and the higher (brown) bridge is closed for traffic...but you can bungee jump off of it! (this view is only 5 minutes from our house!!)

Guests have described our House of Bourbon as "charming", and I couldn't agree more. I love that guests feel at home!
