Big shout out for our Balloon Society of Kentucky members which make up Pilots, Crew, & Family members who drove or car pooled to the Community Building in beautiful Shelbyville, Kentucky. Our Safety Seminar-team which was made up of BSOK members and some guest speakers. The morning started off with registration and a light super tasting breakfast. Our current President Bill Smith opened up with some remarks. The Balloon Federation Of America was represent by Scott McClinton with some of his staff in attendance. The teaching and open discussion had started and was gaining momentum. Several of our guest speakers used videos and photos to demonstrate specific safety topics. Bill as a example used a wooden box to demonstrate the different ways pilots and there crew can have a break down of communication which can cloud the pilots judgment and decisioning making. He then used several examples of past NTBS reports showing how a break down in the chain of events can lead you off course and into the Danger Zone. Looking around the room you could see the expression on pilots and crews faces. Bill had caught the attention of the entire group. Each of those events can lead us down the road of having our nails being hammered into the wooden box. Bill reminded us to using what he was taught by a air guard pilot who said to take 2 seconds and wind your wrist watch. By taking that 2 seconds to look and determine a course of action. This is when you need to change or correct your flying. Remember to practice your memory recall to fly the balloon out of danger. Our day was filled with drawings for door prizes donated by members and Balloon manufactures. We also has a prize donated by a insurance agency. A big thank you to all who make this day enjoyable and iinformitive. Our social team of cooks were prepared for the much anticipated lunch break. The food was prepared by Janet Smith and Denice McClinton.. If you are not a current member please send your new member or renewal form in by mail.
