Want to know more about the secret side of Madison? Okay, it's not really a secret. Locals know all about Laughin’ Place Garden, but it might be new to visitors. This quaint sanctuary is located on the grounds of the Morgan County Library and was a project of the local Magnolia Garden Club. In the center stands the Traveling Musicians statue featuring the donkey, the dog, the cat, and the rooster of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, The Town Musicians of Bremen. Designed by sculptor Elbert Weinberg in 1958, the statue was moved from Lenox Square Mall in Atlanta to its current location in 2012. Georgia travelers might also be delighted to know that their library cards are accepted at the local Morgan County Library. Check out winter vacation reading, rent a movie, or simply step inside to see more sculptures on display.

Our Story

A magical southern city just an hour east of Atlanta, Madison is the town Sherman refused to burn on his infamous March to the Sea. Its National Register Historic District is the state’s largest collection of 19th century architecture, earning it a place on Budget Travel’s 2012 “16 Most Picturesque Villages in the World” and Travel Holiday’s 2001 “#1 Small Town in America.” Madison combines with nearby Rutledge to house more than 170 antiques dealers, 40 boutiques and 20 unique eateries. Aristocratic from its 1807 founding, Madison keeps its cultural edge with offerings from the visual and performing arts to epicurean delights served in an array of venues, whether very fine dining or riverside outings at area farms. Art, food, music and agricultural festivals abound throughout the year.
