A common concern with winter guests who visit Maggie Valley is “can I get in (or out) if it snows”. Our rental at Valley Creek Run is easily accessible during all seasons! There are no steep grades, there is plenty of parking and it is a mere tenth of a mile to the main road. So…come join us for some winter fun.

FYI- Cataloochee ski resort will suspend operations until Monday due to this unseasonably warm weather we are having. Maggie is predicting night time temps in the teens next week…so our friends should be able to start cranking out the snow then.

It is RARE to have full access to the Blue Ridge Parkway this time of year. These warm days have given us the gift of seeing winter sunsets from some of our favorite vantage points. Maggie Valley has a full week of warm days in the forecast. Take a drive and enjoy a sunset only the mountains can give.

Fun fact…did you know that our hot tub gets completely drained, cleaned and refilled after EVERY SINGLE GUEST? So…when you decide to kick back and relax in the hot tub…rest assured it is squeaky clean.

Ski season is open!! Book some time with us and enjoy a little fun on the slopes. We still have some mid-week availability through the holidays with some weekends opening up after the first of the year. This house is only 4 miles from Cataloochee Ski Area.

WE ARE OPEN!! The 21/22 season is officially underway as of 8:30am today! See you on the slopes.

It is shaping up to be a “frost on the pumpkin” kind of weekend…which can only mean it is getting close to opening day. Our rental is only 4.5 miles from the slopes. We still have some mid-week availability through the end of the year…with some weekends opening up in January. Come stay with us as the mountains drop their leaves and prepare for some winter fun.

As you cross the bridge in to our neighborhood…slow down for a peek at one of my favorite views of Jonathan Creek. Granted…we have been blessed with a brilliant late leaf 🍁 season…but this view is also pic worthy in the winter, spring and summer.

Some of the improvements we make are things our guests will never even notice…but that doesn’t make the improvements any less important to us. This week…all the tile throughout the house was acid washed, re-grouted and sealed. Ahhhh…😍😍. Details matter…and we pride ourselves in paying attention to all of them.

My favorite sugar maple just happens to be off the back deck at Valley Creek Run…😍…red, orange, yellow, pink…it does not hold back. Take in peak color week in Maggie Valley this week…and we hope our guests enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening by the fire in the company of this beauty.

What a nice way to start the week! We just earned AirBnB’s SuperHost status for the 3rd time in a row. What are the requirements you ask??:

*Completed at least 10 trips OR completed 3 reservations that total at least 100 nights
*Maintained a 90% response rate or higher
*Maintained a 1% cancellation rate (1 cancellation per 100 reservations) or lower
*Maintained a 4.8 overall rating

Our goal now?? Make it 4 times in a row 😉…we never settle.

Every route is “the scenic route” this time of year. There is an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway just FOUR MILES from our house at Valley Creek Run. Get out this weekend and enjoy the show the mountains are putting on…by car…by foot…by horse…by motorcycle…by bike…

Reason # 482 I love this house…front porch vs back porch. The front porch gives you gorgeous expansive mountain views and a place to have some coffee and watch the sun come up…the back porch gives you the peaceful privacy of mature trees that allow the colors of the sunset to filter through. It’s a win/win ☺️.

Early morning fall fog ? Yes please!! Are you an early riser while the rest of the house sleeps? If so…take advantage of these beautiful foggy fall mornings for a serene stroll around the lake (it is a quick 15 minute drive from the rental at Valley Creek Run). And bonus…Dunkin Donuts is located at the entrance for a hot cup of joe and pumpkin donut to start the day.

WooHOO! So fresh and so clean! We are loving the look of this room! When we purchased this house in September of last year…one of our first improvement goals was to get rid of ALL the carpet…room one is COMPLETE! It will take us a while to work through the rooms that remain as we try to squeeze in projects between guests so as not to disturb them during their stay…or limit the days available to them. We finished this room just in time for some great guests to check in and enjoy this newly floored master suite. Scroll for the before and during shots.

Unto These Hills…the season for this tragic and triumphant outdoor drama of the Cherokee is coming to a close this weekend (August 14). The story traces back to the years before the heartbreak of the Trail of Tears and spans to present day. This show made its debut on July 1, 1950 and has captivated millions. I was lucky enough to grow up here and have this experience as part of my middle school curriculum. Don’t miss an evening like this under the stars in a truly unique mountain theater. You’ll be glad you went.

Who loves sleeping on a pull out sofa??…that’s right…NOBODY!! We upgraded the additional sleeping options in our bunk room this weekend to make it…well…bunkier. We ditched the pull out sofa and replaced it with this super comfortable day bed and trundle…and then tied it together with our favorite bedding from Pottery Barn. Next on our list??? Floors!!

Did you know Maggie Valley was one of the 17 cities participating in the Mountain Heritage Trout Waters Program? The Mountain Heritage Trout Waters program is a cooperative effort between the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and local governments to encourage trout fishing as a heritage tourism activity in western North Carolina cities. The three-mile section of Jonathan Creek, classified as the Maggie Valley Mountain Heritage Trout Water, is a hatchery-supported trout water with the following regulations:
• Open season from July 1 to last day of February
• From 7:00 a.m. on the first Saturday in April until June 30
• No bait or lure restriction
• No size limit restriction
• Seven (7) trout per day creel limit.
So…grab a rod and reel (or grab a loaner)…and enjoy some time in the creek.

Fireworks…backyard style. If you have ever spent time at the Maggie Valley fairgrounds…you know it is the perfect place to throw down a blanket, sit back and enjoy the show. This show never disappoints. Rumor has it you can actually see the fireworks from the front porch at Valley Creek Run! Our guests over the 4th are planning to do just that…we are hoping they send us pics (hint, hint).

Slowly but surely…we are stocking up to make continued improvements to this already awesome space. We are nine months in to this vacation rental and have been beyond blessed by the people who have chosen to spend their time in Maggie Valley with us. Our commitment back??…to invest back in to this great house to make sure you want to keep choosing us. Thank you from our family to yours.

Announcement: One of my all time favorite places is now closed to the public. Purchase K**b is a stunning 4 mile up and back with a beautiful bald at the top for a picnic and gorgeous long range views. It can still be accessed via the Cataloochee Divide Trail - but keep in mind the hike is much longer and requires at least half a day. We will keep you updated if this gem of a trail opens back up.
