Bid on the "Relax at the Farm" package that includes a 2 night stay at Scrappy Duck Farm (or any of the other great silent auction items (ends tonight with winners announced at 9pm)! And support our little community... this nonprofit has helped improve academics through their fun summer day camp and materially lowered stress for people by connecting them with basic needs. We're partial to it because one of us serves as the only part-time staff person.

We're so excited for the annular eclipse coming on October 14, 2023, and MVC will be a great region to view the event. However, we wanted to let you know that in respect to local cultural beliefs, the Four Corners Monument will not be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 14th.

In Navajo culture, the event is called jóhonaa'éí daaztsą́ (“the sun is dead”) and sees the rebirth of the sun after the event. During the eclipse, many Navajo people will be inside fasting and praying. Visitors can expect local businesses to be closed and follow the Visit With Respect guidelines. For those of you putting together an eclipse-trip or stopping through the area, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these changes.

Mesa Verde Country is empowered by the spectacular communities that call this place home and dedicated to not only offering the best adventures, but celebrating the wonderful people who live here. Although you cannot watch the eclipse from the Four Corners Monument, we are ecstatic to see you in MVC as we explore, celebrate, and watch the sky together.💛

Starting to see some fall colors. We are at 7300ft so will be on later end of the change but the high country will be popping soon. Come check it out. .

FALL COLORS REPORT 2023
Be in the know when visitors ask! Peak foliage dates are generally pretty consistent, rarely wobbling by more than a few days. Over the past several years, the colors in the San Juan Mountains tend to start mid-September near Silverton and finish up early to mid-October around Pagosa Springs, Purgatory and Dolores. The fall change is slightly later this year. The tundra and the undergrowth are starting to warm with it's red, yellow and orange hues, the aspens are starting to change but overall the change is minimal at higher elevations.
For more detailed info, visit the San Juan National Forest Fall Colors page here:

You can see Mesa Verde from the deck! We are booked that week but come check out some other options in the Mancos Valley.

On October 14, 2023, Mesa Verde National Park will experience a direct annular eclipse covering the park. Starting around 10:31 am, areas of the park will experience over three minutes of "annularity", the period where the sunlight is blocked to its largest extent (nearly 90% of the sun)! Read below for more details and event planning, including partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Unlike a total eclipse, an annular eclipse is NEVER safe to view without special filters to protect your eyes (and your camera!) from the sun. Eclipse glasses will be available for free at the Visitor and Research Center, Park Entrance Station, and event locations below during park events on the day of the eclipse for as long as supplies last.

Eclipse viewing events will be held at the Morefield Campground Amphitheater, at the Far View Parking Lot and at the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum. NASA scientists and NPS rangers will be providing information and education about the eclipse at all three locations.

Due to staffing, safety, and logistical concerns, morning tours of cliff dwellings will NOT be offered for the day. There is no location in the park where you can see the eclipse from within a cliff dwelling, but many locations near mesa top sites and overlooks. We are anticipating large crowds to visit the park for this event, so please give yourself plenty of time to drive to preferred viewing areas, be flexible with planning, and be patient with other visitors and staff.

For a full list of events and travel recommendations, look on our website's eclipse page here: https://www.nps.gov/meve/planyourvisit/eclipse.htm
