TRAPPERS:
I highly recommend taking the 30 minute bear trapping course. I linked to it a few days ago, but message me if you need it. Then go to this link, and you will see the page below. You need to get this sent off to Augusta via mail or email, and it takes a few days for them to process and get you your license. In order to trap, you need the $115 nonresident hunting license, and the $67 nonresident bear trapping tag on the form below.

The bears in Twp. 22 are playing with gunpowder. Wasn’t going to hunt here until week two or three, but breaking cameras tends to change up the order of my hit list.

I advise everybody to buy your hunting licenses online before you get here. (Definitely you need to get your trapping license online well in advance or in person in Augusta). Read carefully below, the required licenses are described and linked to.
GUN HUNTERS you need the $115 non-resident hunting license plus the $74 bear tag.
BOW HUNTERS, you need the $26 6 day non-res archery license, plus the $74 bear tag.
CROSBOW HUNTERS, buy the 6 day non-res archery tag, PLUS the $56 crossbow permit, plus the $74 bear tag.
TRAPPERS, i advise taking the $29 course below, (very easy, half hour-ish) and you need the $67 trapping tag PLUS the $115 big game license.

I’ve run baits for over 20 years now, and never had to do half as much cutting to get roads/trails cleared out. Probably cut 30 more out of roads today. Then after I finally get to the site, the woods are just as bad. Builds character! Had to give “the ledge” quite a haircut!

Looooong day of getting the first baits started. Got about 20 up and running today. Lost a couple to cuts unfortunately, but that’s what happens in working forests. We had a big snowstorm followed by rain/wind in December and it was murder on the roads. I did 90 miles of woods roads today and probably had to cut 30-40 deadfall trees. Several sites had fresh bear sign where they’ve been waiting for us.

Bird hunters coming up this fall…I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a better spring for the hatch. Grouse #’s in the fall depend so much on the spring weather. When there’s frost/rain in early June, it kills off a ton of freshly hatched grouse. But this spring has been warm and dry here, which should contribute to an excellent bird season.

Had my truck inspected yesterday and this is the first time since bear season I haven’t had a dashboard with more lights on than a Christmas tree. The mechanic asked me if I aim for potholes.

Below is the link for the moose permit lottery, which began on 4/1. You have until May 15 to fill it out. We are located in zone 28, and guide there as well as 18 and 19. If you get drawn elsewhere, you can always trade to our zone, or I can guide you in several other zones. Take whatever season you can get. Here’s my zone suggestions in order…4, 1, 2, 3, 5, 19, 28, 18, 11 and 12. Could sub 18 for 7. But take whatever you can get, except I’d opt out of the 4a cow hunts this year.

To everyone hunting with us in 2024, if you want to buy your license online (which I encourage) go to this website to do it…

First scroll till you see the “buy a license or permit online” bar and click on it. Fill out your personal information, and it will take you to a screen with these prompts. If you’re a gun hunter, buy the $115 license PLUS the $74 bear tag.
If you are an archer, you need the 6 day NR archery license for $26 PLUS the $74 bear tag.
Don’t buy the season long $75 archery license unless you plan on being up longer than six days.
