We love this reel by @newenglandchickadee featuring Poet’s Seat Tower in #GreenfieldMA! “Looking for a quick hike with some great views? Check out Poet’s Seat Tower located in Franklin County! This observation tower sits on top of Rocky Mountain overlooking the town of Greenfield, MA. The original wooden tower that was built here in 1879 was replaced in 1912 by the sandstone tower that sits here today. The tower itself earned its name from a local poet who first called the spot Poet’s Seat. There are a few different options to reach the tower:👟Option 1 - Walk the paved road up to the top. It’s a quick walk and only about 0.4 miles to reach the top.🥾Option 2 - Take the trail to the top for a bit of a longer hike. The trail has a very gradual incline and is about 1.2 miles to the top.🚘 Option 3 - Drive the road and park at the top. The gate is closed at sunset and there may be other times when it closes. If you do plan to drive up, I would recommend having a backup option in case.No matter which option you choose, you will find some beautiful panoramic views at the top that look out across Greenfield and to the mountains beyond. There are a few benches around the base of the tower where you can sit and enjoy the view or have a snack. The tower itself is open and you can climb to the second and third floors. The very top of the tower is accessed by a spiral staircase that may or may not be open depending on when you visit.Tips for visiting:🌲The tower is free to visit.🚗 There is a small parking area at the base of the tower.☀️Rocky Mountain Park is open sunrise to sunset.Have you visited Poet's Seat Tower?📍Mountain Road, Greenfield, MA”
