Clubhouse activities

New Beachwalk activity center featuring kayaking, paddle boats, stand up paddleboarding, plus bocce ball and shuffleboard.

Trivia:
*It is said that King Henry VIII was a big fan of shuffleboard and especially loved to bet on it!
*Bocce ball is the third most popular sport in the world after soccer and golf.
* Bocce ball was played as early as 264 B.C. in Rome in its current form. However, stone balls dating back to 9000 B.C. have been fund in Turkey.

Tah dah, just finished for the summer season...Beachwalk Clubhouse. Featuring snack bar, table tennis and pool table and look out tower. Wonderful outdoor seating.

Very interesting architecture for Orin Glidden's Shawmut Hotel built in 1909 at Stop 7. The footprint of this building which is no longer standing was just west of existing Beachwalk's front entrance at Stop 7 on Lake Shore Drive. Wall updates in the game room. Before and After.

Just added new seating and smart TV in the loft. Great place for teenagers to hang out. Nice to have three living rooms with smart TVs to accommodate all ages! Pictures are the before and after.

As many know in Michigan City, Long Beach, and up into Michigan, everyone refers to neighborhood location by Stop. Stop 1 all the Stop 50, etc. These are geographical references, many times beach access points, as well as wonderful local folklore. It appears the these "Stops" may have been established at time of platting as an easier identifier but this is to be confirmed.

Back then, all the houses on the lakefront had names and were identified by Stop and this was the address. For example, Blue Star, Stop 7 would have been an address. Beachwalk continued this great tradition by naming every house.

There was also a bus system that made stops along Lake Shore Drive and took people around the up and down the lake to school and into town. People remember the buses as being purple and that you had to use small brass tokens to board.

We are looking for old photos of the buses and bus stops.
For now we share an early shot, Photo #1043 of the Michigan City Library Archives entitled First Bus to Sheridan Beach and Hermitage ab 1920.
