Superior Leathercraft

This all began as a desire to create what I was searching for, yet unable to find in the marketplace. It took a lot of trial and error to fulfill that initial desire, but it soon transformed into a favorite hobby just the same. After quite a few years of making leather goods for friends and family, and having a son whom I desired to spend more time with, the idea of turning this into a time flexib

le way to earn some of the necessities in life entered into our plans for the future. Finally, several years ago while escaping into the north woods near Lake Superior, the concept of Superior Leathercraft was born and it's been a dream in the making ever since. 2011 saw plans come to fruition and here is the start of what I hope will be a rewarding experience for my family, my customers and myself. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have regarding the products pictured here, or those which you would like to see pictured here but are not.

Difficult to believe it's been over two years since we've had an update out here. Those years have been busy! A marriage, a new addition to our family, and a new plot of land we're working to get a house built on. But with things now stabilizing into a known level of chaos, the shop is again turning out product. In fact, a few cribbage boards and a co-pilot collar went onto the newly redesigned website recently: https://superiorleathercraft.com/

Now the bad news is we're down to one board in stock already. The good news is we should have a couple more out there in a few days, and another batch ready to go in a couple weeks. You'll see a notification out here when those are going live.

Thanks to everyone for hanging in there and continuing to follow our page. It feels great to get back into the work space and to be putting product together again! (The hands could do with some of the old calluses, though.)

More shortly!

A collapsible tournament cribbage board rolled out of here a couple weeks ago. It was a request and design by another cribbage enthusiast customer. Turns out you CAN play on a tournament board and still put it in your pocket while on the move.

This is an example photo of why I enjoy working with undyed vegetable tanned leather: We have one strip from a new side in its natural state. The cribbage board has roughly a year of regular use on it to date with only a wax protective finish. The bag's D-Ring tabs are coming up on 3 years of age with the same wax treatment. Beautiful material. Maybe we'll do a followup photo after another decade.

In an effort to get the wait list and resulting wait times back down where I like them, I've been negligent in posting regular updates here. Items are still being crafted and have been sent out from the shop this past several months, however! As proof, here are a few snapshots of some of the most recent fullfillments.

Requested and designed by a customer of mine from Florida, this board is laid out in the 121 hole tournament style for six card play. It folds for easy transport, lays flat during use, and with a robust 1/4" of leather in each pe***ng section it should last a very long time. His choice of burgundy and tan really rounds the package out nicely.

The holiday shipping window is slowly closing down. I have a batch of boards in process which will be getting posted over the weekend, and there are a few of the previous batch already posted out there as available for Monday shipment via Priority Mail. If you are searching for a last minute gift for the card player in the family, look no further!

Ill be listing boards available for the holidays as soon as they are in the final stages of crafting. The last batch will be showing up

Superior Leathercraft is excited to announce two recent developments:

First, our Travel Cribbage Board is officially Patent Pending! Customer demand has been steady for this product and I couldn't be more pleased with how it's been received. Thank you to everyone for making this one of our signature products. And thank you to Paul Koziol @ Koziol IP for helping me to get this application process completed!

Second, Superior Leathercraft is in the running for the Martha Stewart American Made awards in 2014. If you haven't already visited the site, please do. The application process allowed me to put into writing some of the ideals this business stands for. Shares on Facebook and Twitter from the nominee site also help move Superior Leathercraft toward becoming a finalist in the fiber crafts section of the competition, so thank you in advance for taking the time to read and share this with your friends.

And now, back to the work bench!
