August 2022 marked the 55th year of business for Wiersema Charter. With the passing of Dad this past July it was an empty milestone. Due to COVID, the last two years have been a struggle not knowing the future of the company and losing Larry was really hard as he was the solid rock for us. Not only as a family but also as a company.
The decision has been made to close Wiersema Charter at the end of 2022. We have had many many great experiences with all of our customers over the years and we are so very thankful for each and every one. We have enjoyed traveling this beautiful country but with the passing of Dad and with Eric and I (Gregg) being full time truck drivers now, ending the legacy is the right decision for us.
During the time of Covid restrictions Eric and I with Mom and Dad started a separate company and began trucking in the Fall of 2020. This started as a way to stay busy and have an income for the short term until things came back to normal. We enjoy it very much as we both worked in the bus industry for 15-20 years officially but really we have been involved our whole lives. The bus industry is still not back to “normal” and we do not know if or when that will happen. It has never been steady or guaranteed and Covid showed us that we were a luxury rather than a necessity or essential. Losing almost everything because of Covid was a harsh reality and has driven us to permanently change our career to a much more stable and dependable industry.
The Wiersema Charter Family wants to thank all of our customers, from 1967 to present. It has been a great time getting to know so many people over the years. During Dad's visitation it was very apparent that he himself brought joy to so many. We also want to thank all of our drivers and employees over the 55 years! We have been blessed with a wonderful group of employees, many of whom have become family. Closing this chapter is not an easy decision, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
