April marked our one-year anniversary on Airbnb.

God has been so good to us and we give Him all the glory.
We could not have done this without Him.

It has been such an honor to host so many amazing guests and their pups.
Serving others has brought us so much joy.

We are so thankful to Pastor Bryan, our spiritual leader at Boomerang Church.
He helped us make the decision to be a host, prayed with us and has imparted much wisdom about running a business.

Sometimes it’s so refreshing to just sit and doodle.
That’s just what I did this morning.

I was inspired by my dear friend Lauren; .
She suggests taking just 5 minutes a day to immerse yourself with fun and easy doodles.
It energizes your brain and gets those creative juices flowing.
You don’t even have to know how to draw. Just pick up a pen and get started.

Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friend, never owned a dog.

This vintage photo makes me smile.
I began my love of antiques and heirloom pieces as a young girl.

My family moved from northern California to a small town in Minnesota when I was in 7th grade.
It was a culture shock, but that changed quickly as we began to attend farm auctions all across Minnesota and Iowa.

I watched my mother eagerly bid on furniture and pottery. If you’ve never heard an auctioneer at a small farm auction, put it on your bucket list.

We still have of the pieces she bought in our house today.

When I’m not hosting, I still enjoy the adventure of antique shops.

This photo was in a shoe box of photos I purchased at an antique store here in North Carolina.
The back is stamped ‘MAYS PHOTO SHOP, Sept 22, 1939, La Crosse Wisconsin.

It makes me smile every time I look at it. Perhaps these are her two favorite things.

One Christmas, many years ago I uttered those words.

I had just learned how to read, so it seemed like a good idea to get up in the middle of the night and read the tags on all the gifts under the tree.
Naturally I was looking for my gifts.

My brother decided to join me and as I was showing him the presents for him, he decided it was okay to open a few.
Of course, I saw no harm in that. We’ll wrap them back up after we see what we received.
It seemed perfectly logical.

My poor mother came out to see about all the noise and when she saw what we had done started to sob.
She had spent hours cutting out snowmen and angels to decorate all the boxes and we had torn them all apart.

Now here’s the fun part. My sister who is five years younger than me, wandered in during all the chaos.
All I had to do was point to her and declare, “It’s my sister ‘s fault!”

My mother taped the presents back up, put them back under the tree and the next day we opened them as if nothing had happened.
However, we did apologize.

One Christmas we will never forget. Hope this made you laugh.

The trees are bare and yet there is something so beautiful about our woods.
Listening to the rustling leaves under my feet every morning as I walk my dogs; always calms me.

We have many places close by to enjoy an afternoon walk in the woods.
One of the closest is right here; at Blue Finch Cottage.
We have a pleasant little dog path the leads around the edge of our property.
My dogs insist of their daily morning constitutional. LOL

You can also find many other beautiful places to walk and hike near Blue Finch Cottage.
Pharr Family Preserve is only 9 minutes away and has 1.7 miles of trails perfect for walking or biking.
The trail winds through 66 acres of land protected by the Catawba lands Conservancy.

Pharr Family Preserve Trail is also part of the Butterfly Highway. “The Butterfly Highway is a statewide
conservation restoration initiative that aims to restore native pollinator habitats to areas impacted
by urbanization, land use change and agriculture across North Carolina.

It’s wonderful to walk in the woods on a windy North Carolina day and watch the fallen leaves dance in the wind.

It happens all the time, you’re packing to go away and you forget your toothbrush.
It’s one of the most commonly forgotten items.

There are several options; you can use a paper towel or your finger.
You can even mix your own toothpaste by dissolving a bit of salt in a glass of water, dip your finger in and scrub away. Not very appealing.

We have a better solution.
If you should forget your toothbrush, we’ve got you covered.
You’ll find plenty of extra toothbrushes, so no worries.

Why should you never brush your teeth with your left hand?
Because a toothbrush works better. 🤣

It’s important to us that our guests have a great experience and will our best to make that happen.

We love to give you a reason to smile.

My dear old dog, most constant of all friends.

November was National Adopt a Senior Pet Month – a month dedicated to helping older pets find their forever homes. Adopting a senior pet is something to consider throughout the year.

Sadly, senior pets are often the last to be adopted, if at all. They tend to spend the longest amount of time at shelters and rescues. Senior cats and dogs also have a higher rate of euthanasia than the younger ones.

I know from experience that senior pets are usually calmer, less demanding and already housetrained.
When you adopt a senior, you’re saving a life.

Every senior pet I’ve adopted has known they are loved and give me more love in return. I have proof, they follow me everywhere, including the bathroom. LOL

We have many guests who bring the senior adoptees. It’s so touching to hear each dog’s story.

This is the passion behind Blue Finch Cottage. We wanted to provide a quiet and safe place for guests and their dogs, so they don’t have to leave their dogs at home.
Every guest that brings a dog always tell us how grateful they are to have such a wonderful place to stay with their loving companions.

This sweet senior is Nelson. He loves to cuddle and hang out with his best bud, Chino.

Regardless of the age of a dog, they remain our babies to the end of time.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States tomorrow, I think about how grateful I am to God.
With His help, wisdom and strength; we were able to begin the journey of hosting an Airbnb.
We owe it all to Him.

As my sweet southern Pastor says, “Thank Him all day, errday!” – Pastor Nicole Wright
And that’s what we do, we thank Him constantly.
He is a giving God and He makes it easy to be grateful all day long!

A road trip without a dog is just a drive.

It’s been said that dogs are the best travel companions; they don’t ask questions and they don’t complain.

We couldn’t imagine taking a trip without our dogs and we knew other people felt the same way.
And that is what gave us the inspiration to start hosting an Airbnb for dog- lovers.

It’s important to us that our fury guests feel welcome and safe.
The private yard is fully fenced and well-lit for night time visits.

We provide beds, food and water bowls, bottled water, cleaning supplies and a special walking path around the property.

Our guests always thank us for making their pups feel so special.

We are so grateful for all our Veterans. We love America and all those who served us in the military.

There are many Veterans in my life; my father, family members, my Pastor, many in my church family and close friends. They have shown taught me what it means to serve not only our country, but others.

I’ve included a prayer by Dutch Sheets from his website www.givehim15.com.
If you would, please take a moment to agree with me in prayer over America and our Veterans.

Pray with me:
Father, we thank You for the courageous men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We acknowledge that America is still the land of the free because of our brave veterans. We thank You for the families of our veterans, who selflessly serve at home while their loved ones are in harm’s way. As the Bible instructs us, we give honor to those whom honor is due. We esteem their service and sacrifice on this Veterans Day.

We ask You to send a great spiritual awakening to veterans and their families. Bring Your restorative touch to bodies, minds, and spirits. Release Your miraculous power to heal what medical experts say will never be healed. We know that truly nothing is impossible for You!

Father, we ask You to initiate a movement where civilians and veterans come together to advance Your Kingdom’s mission. We seek Your face to impart wisdom for creative ways for veterans’ skill sets to be incorporated into their communities. May the warrior ethos that is instilled in veterans be taught and transferred to the civilian population as we come together in this kairos time.

We love to surprise our guests with a little extra pampering. For some, coffee or tea is a life sustaining substance. Our guests can choose from drip coffee, Keurig K-cups, tea or hot chocolate. We even supply large bottles of water to make their coffee.

They will always find the refrigerator stocked with plenty of bottled water and there’s plenty of room in the full-size fridge for whatever food or beverages a guest may need.

It’s so much fun to delight our guests with a variety of snacks; chips, cookies, granola bars and sometimes some homemade bread.

We do all of things little gestures to let our guests know how much we appreciate them and how special they are to us.

It’s our hope that each guest has a memorable and peaceful stay at Blue Finch Cottage.

Sometimes before bedtime I fall asleep on the couch… It’s my lil sleep appetizer…my nappetizer.

We’ve all done it. You grab a snack, hop on the couch, turn on your favorite movie and before you know it, you’re fast asleep.
That cozy warm room, dim lights and the background tv noise tells your body it’s time for a sofa nap.

Experts say to prevent this you should sit up straight instead of lying down.
I don’t think so… It’s fair too tempting to lay down.

Here’s the good news; there’s no need to worry if you fall asleep on the sofa.
There is not enough evidence to prove that it’s not bad for you.

When guests stay at Blue Finch Cottage, we love to encourage them to visit the neighboring towns.
Our guestbook is full of shopping, eating, hiking and historical sites near us.

The city of Concord is a great place to start. Concord has been voted one of HGTV’s Most Charming Small Towns.
Downtown Concord is only 24 miles away from the Cottage.

We suggest visiting Union Street in historic downtown Concord. Union Street is lined with locally owned restaurants, unique shops and breweries.
The centerpiece of downtown is the Greek Revival-style Historic Cabarrus County Courthouse, home to the Concord Museum.

If you’re hungry there are two local favorite places to eat, Gianni’s Trattoria and 2 Gals Kitchen. Gianni’s Trattoria serves specialty pizzas and fantastic Italian dishes; while 2 Gals Kitchen serves classic Italian food. If you’re looking for sweets; Cabarrus Creamery, The Sweet Life, and Chocolatier Barrucand are all located within a short walk of each other.

Downtown Concord is the perfect day trip. Come meet the locals, eat something tasty and maybe buy a yourself a few mementos.

The chirping of a sparrow and the soft wind in the trees always remind me of spring. Yesterday I had a potential guest ask if Blue Finch Cottage was away from noise and city energy. My first thought was to tell him that all you will hear is the whisper of nature. I assured him that it is very quiet here and he will find rest. He quickly booked his stay.
