A great Sunday day hike with Gerald & Bluey!
This is one of my favorite hikes that Gerald has named the Bear Wallows. We didn't see any bears today but a bear den.

Latest Report from Mount Shasta Avalanche Center & Home of the Climbing Rangers~A very large natural avalanche occurred in Avalanche Gulch on Mount Shasta during the recent storm event. It ran the full extent of its potential path, dropping 5,000 vertical feet over the course of three miles, leaving debris piles exceeding 60 feet deep. The avalanche started on steep slopes above treeline and came to rest in low-angle terrain below treeline. This highlights the importance of knowing where you are, where you're going and what's around you while traveling in the backcountry.
The Everitt Memorial Highway and Castle Lake roads are currently closed. Siskiyou County's road crews are hard at work clearing the snow, but unfortunately, one blower down means the reopening might take longer than expected, possibly stretching out to several days or more.
Another great snowshoe tour with Carol all the way from China!
The road up Mt. Shasta is plowed and open to Bunny Flat. Castle Lake is still being worked on and hopefully open soon.
