One of my favorite things about visiting Rome is the history that completely blows your mind. Walking through the catacombs, nearly 2,000 years old, going underground to see early Christian symbols, and stepping in the footsteps of the first Christians ā it all feels surreal. Seeing the tiles inscribed āPetrus et Paulus,ā almost 1,800 years old, transports you back in time and brings the Bible to life in a whole new way. (Unfortunately, pictures are not allowed, but feel free to browse the images Iāve gathered from other sources, along with some video content.)
We also visited the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, where you can see Saint Paulās tomb and the chains with 9 links, which tell the story of his life as a prisoner in Rome. Originally constructed in the 4th century AD by Emperor Constantine to honor Saint Paul, martyred around 64-67 AD, the basilica is built above his sacred burial site. The chains on display are said to have bound Saint Paul during his imprisonment.
