Host families and Au Pairs: for your protection, we always recommend using a designated agency to find a screened match. http://www.iapa.org/ has a list of recommended member agencies on their website.
An Au Pair agency is able to help with the matching process, local laws and requirements, visa applications, arrival and support during the program for both Host Families and Au Pairs.

BEWARE OF SCAMS!

Lately we receive quite a few emails from young people who have found a family via online platforms and are now being asked to pay money abroad to the "UK Home Office" or other dubious addresses by money transfer.

Please do not pay anything!!

How to detect a SCAM:

- the host family contacted you through Facebook or other social media but not through the online platform you posted your profile on
- They promise almost ideal conditions (in or near big city or area everyone wants to go to) , cook, cleaner etc.
- high pocket money for little work
- possibly what they write doesn't match the photos e.g. children look older/younger than in the description
- at some point they ask you to pay a big amount of money by money order for a visa process
- they use a barrister´s letter to make it look legit or the logo of an official department or a true agency but if you compare the contact data you will find it´s not the same

Note:
- especially applicants who want to go to US or UK should be careful
- Only applicants from the EU can apply for an au pair position in the UK and they don´t have to pay anything to some UK Home office.
- Going to the US you will always have to apply with an agency in your country and you will be personally interviewed and screened.
- You never have to send any money abroad

Better be safe and contact a proper agency. There are real people who place you with real families in a correct way.
