Hi, I’m Nancy and I’m your designer! I’m thrilled you are here and hope you enjoy every inch of this collaborative, creative, and inspiring space.
Each artisan, craftsman, and co-host who contributed their passion, time, and God-given skills to bring this Airbnb to life deserves so much praise! I could not create this space without their love and dedication to this meaningful project that supports artisan trade skills among our youth.
I began designing at the age of six. After being ushered to the playground to play a competitive game of hopscotch, I noticed the wooden puck used to play the game set everyone up to fail, as it rarely landed in a square. The puck was not functional. Frustrated, I approached the teacher to let her know I could design and make custom beanbags to solve this engineering issue so we could play the game and with style. She agreed, and the next day I was in business with orders rolling in.
I always remembered what transpired on the playground that day. At the age of 6, I learned I had a voice and the gift of ingenuity. Creative engineering is how I approach problem-solving, and my ‘master’s degree’ in follow-through put ideas in motion. This combination, coupled with a heart for service, set the stage for activating many initiatives to provide for youth in Nashville and led to my passion for launching Shop Class & Design Academy for youth and young adults.
