The Psychology of Symptoms (POS) is a body-mind centered psychotherapy and healing process that helps you identify how the stressors in your life are contributing to your physical symptomology. The POS process helps you identify how you can use your awareness and presence to heal and balance repressed emotions, the inability to set clear boundaries, and over-identification with self sacrificing ro
les and patterns that prevent us from being present to our emotional needs. These three factors have been identified as significant contributing sources of many common medical problems. The Psychology of Symptoms is a psychospiritual process that is based on the fundamental principles that we are all loved, lovable and enough just as we are. We are whole, perfect, and made in the image and likeness of the Divine. With that said, we all experience "wounding" as children in that we are loved with conditions and not seen or heard for the essence that we are. Everyday in my practice I witness self sacrificing behaviors as roles or "Selves" we develop in early childhood to compensate for a perceived emotional threat...most commonly the perceived threat that we will not be fully loved unless we behave and act in a compromised form of self denial. This manifests in us the need to adopt roles or strategies to get the love we want and need. We become locked into the role of pleasers, caretakers, rebels, responsible ones, overachievers, perfectionists and helpers to secure the love, approval and acceptance we know we need to survive and grow. The Psychology of Symptoms is a dynamic body-centered process that helps you embody ways of being that are more balanced and afford you the opportunity to secure getting your emotional needs met. As a result dramatic changes can occur in your physiology, including improved immune and hormonal functioning, and restoring balance to your central nervous system. Through POS, many common psychosomatic illnesses such as headaches, migraine's, neuromuscular problems, skin rashes, acne, ulcerative colitis, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression and other disorders can begin to be resolved in an integrative sustainable way.
