Lake Mead National Recreation Area is announcing the planned reopening of several popular trails on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, following the summer seasonal trail closure. The annual closure, in effect from May 15 through September 30, is implemented to protect visitors from extreme summer heat.

The trails reopening include:
⭐️Goldstrike Canyon
⭐️White Rock Canyon and White Rock Canyon Trail
⭐️Arizona Hot Springs and Arizona Hot Springs Trail
⭐️Liberty Arch Trail
⭐️Lone Palm Trail
⭐️Sugar Loaf Trail
⭐️Surrounding areas of Lone Palm and Sugar Loaf

In conjunction with the trails reopening, community members are invited to join Lake Mead National Recreation Area staff for a restoration event at Goldstrike Canyon Trail. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 1, from
8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and will focus on removing trash and graffiti along the trail.

While cooler temperatures offer more comfortable hiking conditions, visitors should still take precautions to stay safe.

Follow these tips for a safe and enjoyable visit:
⭐️Hike Early - Start your hike in the early morning when temperatures are cooler.
⭐️Stay Hydrated - Carry plenty of water and salty snacks.
⭐️Know Your Route - Familiarize yourself with trail distances and terrain.
⭐️Limit Activity - Keep hikes short to avoid overexertion.
⭐️Pack Smart - Wear appropriate clothing, and bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
