I know everyone is aware of the thousands of flights that have been canceled by Southwest Airlines over Christmas weekend. They have told us they are unable to book any new flights until December 30/31, due to a staffing shortage, the weather, cancellations, etc. They have canceled more flights over this past weekend than any other airline, so be advised.

My clients often ask, "Why should I purchase travel insurance?" Here are just a few reasons why you should never travel without it.
(1) You're covered for emergency hospitalization if you become ill or have an accident while traveling. (2) Missed your flight? Trip insurance covers you for trip interruption by putting you up overnight at a hotel, etc. (3) Travel insurance will pay for repatriation back to the United States for hospitalization/treatment if you have a serious illness/accident that cannot be treated at your destination. (4) Reimburses you for emergency dental treatment. (5) Covers lost or damaged baggage. And quite a few other incidents would most likely be covered, depending on which travel protection plan you purchase.
Here's a tip: To receive reimbursement from any airline or travel insurance company for clothing and other items you packed in lost luggage, you WILL need to provide receipts for those items. And never, ever pack anything valuable in checked luggage. Happy Trails!!

If you are a first-responder, you might have a free cruise with your name on it.

Margaritaville at Sea will offer free cruises to the Bahamas for current and former U.S. military members, fire, police, and EMS personnel and educators, the cruise line said Wednesday.

Eligible travelers can book a cruise through the "Heroes Sail Free" program, coordinated in partnership with e-commerce site GovX, on sailings from Sept. 9 through Dec. 29, 2023.

"To show our sincere gratitude for their ongoing service, we wanted to offer these frontline heroes a chance to kick off their boots and work shoes and flip flop into a relaxing getaway," Kevin Sheehan, Jr., president and CEO of Margaritaville at Sea, said in a news release. "We hope a little downtime to recover from the demands of their day-to-day responsibilities is just what they need."

The line's 658-cabin Margaritaville at Sea Paradise set sail from Port of Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this year.

MGM Hotels announces closure of it's casinos; no new reservations are being taken until May 1, 2020:
Chairman and C.E.O. of MGM Resorts Jim Murren explained that even though the company took previous precautionary measures while still remaining open, a full closure became the best option. Murren added that the choice was "for the good of our employees, guests and communities." Despite our commitment to dedicating additional resources for cleaning and promoting good health, while making difficult to close certain aspects of our operations, it is now apparent that is a public health crisis that requires major collective action if we are to slow its progression, Mirren stated. MGM operated the MGM Grand, Luxor, Aria, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, New York-New York, Mirage and Bellagio resorts in Las Vegas.

Royal Caribbean just announced they are suspending cruises originating in the U.S. beginning at midnight tomorrow -March 14th-until April 10th. If you were booked on a RCCL cruise during this time period, RCCL urges you to contact your travel agent (if booked through one) or RCCL reservations. RCCL has also said they are reaching out to their guests.

A MESSAGE FROM UNIVERSAL ORLANDO RESORT:

Out of an abundance of caution and to assist with our nation's preventive efforts, Universal Orlando Resort will temporarily close its theme parks and Blue Man Group shows beginning Monday, March 16. We anticipate remaining closed through the end of March – but will continue to evaluate the situation.
Universal Orlando's hotels and Universal CityWalk will remain open.
