On Sept.15, four people will become astronauts when they strap into a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule and blast off of planet Earth. The crew, led by Jared Isaacman, a billionaire entrepreneur from New Jersey (who bankrolled the flight), will make history on their Inspiration4 flight, which will be the first crewed spaceflight to travel around Earth without professional astronauts on board. And, since the crew was selected earlier this year, they have been hard at work training for this moment that is just weeks away.

Do you want to be a NASA Astronaut?

As of June 2011, a total of 654 lucky people from 36 countries have been able to go into space. However, some qualifications are required to apply. These are described one by one below:

Physical fitness

Height: 62 to 65 inches.
Sight: The sight of both eyes is 20/20 in identifying near and far objects. (Even if the error level is 20/200 or better, you will be considered eligible.)
Blood pressure: 140/90 while sitting.

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biology, Physics or Mathematics from a reputed university for at least three years.

However, preference will be given to those who have a one-year master's degree or a three-year 'doctorate' degree. Moreover, candidates with teaching experience up to class XII will get more preference.

Other qualifications

1) Must have experience of running at least 1000 hours jet plan.
2) The applicant must be a citizen of a member state of the International Astronomical Union.

The selection process
The selected applicants enter into an agreement with the concerned organization. (In the case of NASA, it is the astronaut office at the Johnson Space Station in Houston, Texas.) This was followed by two years of continuous training.
Candidates have to pass the swimming test in the first month of space-suit training.
They are then made to feel artificial weightlessness in a jet aircraft, which lasts about 20 seconds and 20 seconds, and the process is repeated about 40 times a day. However, the zero weight flight also made the astronauts feel the actual weightlessness.

Pilot astronauts have to fly 15 hours per month and non-pilots 4 hours per month. However, completing all the training successfully does not mean getting a chance to go into space.

If you want to go into space, you have to wait for a new mission and sometimes the waiting range becomes very heavy. Maybe 1 year, 2 years, 5 years or more. But if you are lucky you can get that opportunity in a month.

NASA's latest space station cargo includes a 3D printing system for lunar soil

The test printer could help NASA plan future Moon and Mars habitats.

NASA has edged one step closer to building Moon and Mars colonies using the celestial bodies' soil. Universe Today notes that NASA's latest International Space Station resupply mission included a machine meant to demonstrate 3D printing regolith (that is, loose soil or rock) on the Moon and similar extraterrestrial surfaces.

The Redwire Regolith Print (RRP) project will work in tandem with an existing printer system (ManD) to try 3D printing simulated regolith. If that succeeds, the ISS crew will gauge the strength of the resulting material to see if it can handle the harsh conditions beyond Earth.

If all goes well, RRP could lead to colonists printing at least some of their habitats on-demand. That, in turn, could reduce the volume of construction supplies NASA brings to the Moon and Mars. Scientists have envisioned soil-based habitats for years, but this test is relatively realistic — it's an attempt at 3D printing soil in lower gravity. While there will still be much work to do, the long-term goals for Artemis and future Mars missions may be that much more achievable.
