How lucky am I that I got to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity twice? I got to visit The Maldives again, and this time, I got to bring my friend Katie along. Watching her eyes as she took in all that was happening was just worth everything to me. We marveled at the color of the water, new food and flavors, brightly colored fish, the incredible hospitality of the Maldivian people, and the shooting stars…but the best part was seeing Katie experience all this for the first time. The power of travel! Thank you for saying YES Katie, and for joining me in paradise. Can’t wait for our next adventure!!!

🐘Sri Lanka may be of the best safari destinations outside of Africa offering wilderness and luxury right on the coast of the Indian Ocean.

Yala is Sri Lanka’s most famous nature reserve. The jeeps can enter the park at 6am and must be out of the park by 6pm. The rest of the time the 321 thousand acres belong to the wildlife. The landscape is beautiful - consisting of light forests, scrubs, grasslands, lotus ponds, brackish lagoons, big rocks and wild rugged coastline. Yala is home to 44 varieties of mammals and 215 bird species and it boasts the highest density of leopards 🐆 per sq. km. Spotting those magnificent cats requires patience and luck!

And luck was on our side! We spotted not just one, but two, leopards lounging in trees. Too far away for good photos but close enough to feel the thrill of the encounter.

We also had magical encounters with elephants, buffalo, spotted deer, sambar deer, jackals, crocodiles, mongooses as well as many kinds of birds and other creatures.

Uga’s Chena Huts was a great place to return to or to spend the day. The pool, the spa and the lounge and bar spaces are an oasis from the heat of the day. Chena’s position in nature means that you may even see a herd of elephants walking on the beach.
