🏛️ Spotlight: 51st STATE.

People call Jamal Holtz the future mayor of D.C.

At 25, he is a warm, extroverted, “old soul” passionately dedicated to establishing Washington, DC as The United States’ newest State. 🇺🇸

"51st STATE" explores the emerging national issue of DC statehood from the personal perspective of one of its youngest and most vibrant Gen Z leaders—set against the overlooked cultural backdrop of our capital city and a deep yet virtually unknown crack in our democracy.

🎥 Sundance Film Festival Panel Spotlight: “Healthcare on Screen: Stories of Hope, Bias, and the Human Experience.”

Join the visionary filmmakers behind two groundbreaking films that tackle diverse facets of the healthcare system, each with a deeply human perspective.

Dr. Jessica Zitter and Jen Gilomen (“The Chaplain and the Doctor”) + Dominique Debroux and Christopher Henze (“Wise Women: Why Menopause Matters”) come together to explore themes of serious illness, bias, and menopause in medicine. 🩺

Through their unique storytelling, they shine a light on the complexities of caregiving, systemic inequities, and the universal quest for compassion and dignity. This panel will spark critical conversations about where healthcare falls short, where it succeeds, and how these stories can inspire change.

📣 Spotlight: JOIN OR DIE.

A film about why you should join a club… and why the fate of America depends on it.

In this feature documentary, follow the half-century story of America's civic unraveling through the journey of legendary social scientist Robert “Bob” Putnam, whose groundbreaking "Bowling Alone" 🎳 research into America's decades-long decline in community connections could hold the answers to our democracy's present crisis.

Flanked by influential fans and scholars — from Hillary Clinton, Pete Buttigieg, and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy to Eddie Glaude Jr., Raj Chetty, and Priya Parker — as well as inspiring groups building community in neighborhoods across the country, join Bob as he explores three urgent civic questions:

➡️ What makes democracy work?
➡️ Why is American democracy in crisis?
➡️ And, most importantly… What can we do about it?

🇺🇸 Movie Night Spotlight: THE DECIDERS.

Working-class residents in a small, Southern town get a strange offer from a group of self-professed Patriotic Millionaires: we’ll show you how politicians from both parties rigged the economy against you, if you’ll help us fix it.

Dubbing themselves “The Deciders,” this nascent group of single mothers, military veterans and Trump supporters finds solidarity in pursuit of a living wage and faces entrenched forces and callous political leaders in a heartfelt documentary that will leave you asking who really decides where the money goes?

🤔➡️ Who holds the power in resource allocation, and how can communities influence these decisions?

📒 [Sneak Peek: Discussion Guide] Stories transcend boundaries, build empathy, and fuel change—especially at the local level.

Our Movie Night campaign is more than just a series of screenings; it’s an opportunity to bring communities together, share important ideas, and start conversations that can lead to meaningful action.

As we reflect on recent elections and look toward the future, it’s clear that our communities need to be more united than ever. 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼

There is a greater need to educate the next generation on the importance of democracy, civic responsibility, and inclusivity.

Movie Night allows us to explore these themes together, to ask questions, and to imagine how we can work toward a brighter, more connected society.

🗳️ Movie Night Spotlight: WINNER, directed by Susanna Fogel.

“Winner” is based on the true story of Reality Winner, a brilliant young misfit from Texas who finds her morals challenged while serving in the US Air Force and the NSA.

She eventually blew the whistle on the NSA, revealing to the public that the U.S. government knew there was Russian interference in the 2016 election. 🇺🇸

Winner’s actions landed her in prison, where she was faced with extreme punishment because, according to her, the government sought to make an example out of her.

It had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and was released on September 13, 2024, by Vertical Entertainment.
