First time sailing without using any sails! It’s blowing a gale out here.
4800nm and 31 days at sea later, we arrive at the Isle of Arran!
Narrow rail on Isle on Man.
Time to say good bye to Dublin and the local yacht club. We were in a very commercial part of town as you can see. Next stop is.....
Update from 17 June. Third cold front in a row. 10 foot swell and 4 foot waves! This was not forecasted!
North Atlantic update from Sat. the 16th. Wind is getting stronger and waves a starting to build. Will anything break today?
Dolphins were an almost daily event. I wanted to see a whale, but I did not get that lucky. To quote The Zissou, from Life Aquatic, “you know, I’ve about had it with those dolphins.”
Departing the Azores, bound for Ireland.
It’s Portugal Day in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel! We tried to sail away but the waves were to high from ahead so we turned around. We were delayed from docking by Maritime Police for an air and water performance by the Portugués military!
The water is a bit cool, like 66 degrees F, but we wanted to use the grill again so in I went!
This is a video from day 10 of 12 on the Atlantic Crossing from Bermuda to the Azores. We made landfall on 28 May.
Crab Fight
So bored I made a video of crabs fighting. A neighbor told me because we had so much rain lately (like a foot or two) the land crabs were on the move to higher ground.
As of yesterday the port engine, both control panels, wiring harnesses, drive shafts and propellers have been removed. Now we wait for new engines to be delivered. They were due a week ago.
Removing the engine from Makara
We have a major problem with the startboard engine! It needs to be disassembled and examined. Here is the result of about two day's work of removing the diesel generator that was in the way, and then sliding the engine back a few feet so the "Lull", a type of crane, can lift it out of the boat. Of course we had to get a tow boat to take us over to the boat yard, and then to take us back to our marina. This is going to be very expensive!
Too close for comfort! Lindsay just yelled at them or they might have hit us while backing up!
