This mystery fish is a fascinating one!
These tiny animals actually have a type of bioluminescence in their bodies, meaning they literally glow in the dark!

Found in the deep sea, their light comes from photophores—which are special cells within their bodies that produce light.

Why do they glow? These tiny fish use their bioluminescent light to:
🔦 Camouflage from predators
🎣 Attract prey
💡 And Communicate with other fish

They are also a major food source for larger fish (like our Rockfish) in the deep sea environments along our coast.
