"Ocean City Mansion was built in 1898 by the children of the Lake Brothers. This location was picked because it is one of the highest neighboring flood levels. First owners of the house, Albert Gilbert and Sally Lake opened a funeral parlor on Asbury Ave. Prior to the founding of the Ocean City Mansion in 2003, there were only four owners of the house. The house was vacant and had been neglected for 20 years. The real estate agents would send prospective buyers through the padlocked kitchen window as the rest of the house had been boarded up. Thirty plus laden mattresses and heavy metal lockers were strewn through the tiny rooms. It soon became a long remodel named a Labor of Love."

"Adam Coste is the Educational Travel Manager at The National WWII Museum’s Jenny Craig Institute for the Study of War and Democracy. In this role, he works closely with the Museum’s Educational Travel Department to provide top-notch historical content production for tours to both Europe and the Pacific. Originally from Ocean City, New Jersey, Adam graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, in May 2009 with a degree in Military History and was commissioned as an infantry officer where he went on to serve eleven years on active duty in the United States Army. During this time, he deployed overseas three times to the Middle East and Europe on various combat and operational deployments serving in both the 1st Cavalry Division and the 1st Infantry Division where he commanded both an infantry and headquarters company. In his last assignment on active duty from 2018-2020, Adam served as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Tulane University where he taught both Military Science and American Military History. Prior to joining the Institute team, he earned his Master of Arts in History from the University of New Orleans in December 2023. His research focuses on the American military experience in the 20th Century with particular emphasis on World War II and the Vietnam War."

"Alex was a lifelong entrepreneur and merchant who was most proud of his idea to transform an old, rundown movie theatre into the Surf Mall, the largest retail space on the boardwalk. Long before that, he opened his first store at the corner of 9th and Wesley and called it The Body Shop. There he interviewed and hired a superstar employee who knocked his socks off and soon became his wife. Together, he and Carol expanded to the boardwalk where they owned and operated The Birdcage. In 1979 they purchased the Surf Theater and ran Rocky Horror Picture Show Nights, still fondly remembered by many locals and tourists. Alex loved hosting parties and events. He was well-known for his “come one, come all” attitude. Everyone was invited and he made sure games, prizes, food, and spirits were in abundance. He enjoyed golfing and eating out with his good friends and even tried his hand at ballroom dancing, which unearthed a hidden talent and became a genuine passion for him. Alex was never able to retire his entrepreneurial spirit and looked forward to discussions over breakfast about new ideas and business ventures. Those are the conversations we’ll miss the most."
