The Writing Center is staffed by undergraduate students who have completed an internship training course to help you with your writing. We'll work one-on-one with students from every field to help enhance their writing. Come in with anything, completed or not. Our writing consultants will work on anything from creative to academic work, from brainstorming to drafts. Anyone is also encouraged to ut

Erin-Kate Sousa from the Intensive English Institute says, “These videos, created by Talinn Phillips and Rachel Ryerson, enact different conversations that writing consultants might have with graduate students, such as organizing a literature review or making revisions to an article.”

Last week the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad was awarded to Crispin Kamundala where he will be studying abroad in France!
Crispin gave the UMaine Writing Center and writing center consultant, Paul England, a shout out in his interview saying, “Lastly UMaine’s Writing Center also has been helpful for me. Paul England from the Writing Center always had a lot of useful feedback for my essays and I really appreciate working with him."

The Writing Center did a workshop earlier this week with students in MUS 150, first years majoring in music! We worked on their music bios. One of our consultants, Sher, shared some of her tips and tricks as well as her own music bio as reference! Check them out on the next slides.

Our first speed reading session and consultation table in the Union were both a success and we’re doing it all again tomorrow!
We will be in the Union from 10-2 tomorrow March 22nd offering FREE five minute consultations and answering any questions you may have about the Writing Center! Then, directly after at 2:00pm in Neville 402, we have our second speed reading session! We hope to you all there!!

The Writing Center will be holding a three part speed reading series with the first session next Tuesday, March 8th at 2:00 in the Writing Center, 402 Neville! Speed reading is a great skill for any college student to have in their tool belt. Say goodbye to hours of reading textbooks while still retaining the important information!

We have two locations at 402 Neville Hall and on the first floor of Fogler Library! 402 Neville serves as our Writing Center headquarters and Fogler Library as a satellite room. Both of these spaces are open for in person consultations and writing intensive study spaces. Feel free to stop by and say hi any time! Olivia Johnson is our Writing Consultant of the Month for the month of November!
Olivia is a fourth year English major and it is her second year as a consultant for the Writing Center. She is also one of our Consultant Coordinators.
Besides consulting, Olivia is also a copy editor at the Maine Campus school news paper!

A busy last few weeks in the Writing Center! Writing Center Director, Paige, and a cohort of Writing Center consultants have been involved in many workshops with CMJ 150, public speaking, and ENG 101. We love facilitating small group workshops like these! They are a great way to peer edit and think critically about each others writing, with the help of our trained consultants!

The Writing Center will be holding an interactive APA citation workshop this Tuesday, October 5th at 5:30 PM in Neville 402!
Bring your own writing and attend for a listen and learn workshop with the Department of Education Graduate students!
APA citations are frequently used when writing scholarly research articles. These types of citations are valuable for all writers to know!

It's Writing Center Workshop Season! In week four of the semester, two sections of ENG 101 and MUL 150 peer-reviewed each other's essays and music bios!
MUL Professor Liz Downing, Writing Consultant Amy Jones, and Writing Center Director Paige Mitchell, worked with 30 collaborating students (15 in each course).
Paige writes: "It was cool hearing and seeing students working on writing across contexts! They were great peer-reviewers and outside readers of each other's projects!"
