Today was the day when we couldn't choose the weather. Wind burns all around.
Some dandies were caught this morning. Of course, the fish were on the move, so using a shelter was a no-go.
These gentlemen embraced the yuck with success. Many laughs and some good smack talk to go with it.

It sure is good to see the people on the lake this year. Last year's ice was a rough one. Years previous were hard as well.

With the cold weather and forecasted warm-up, please be aware while on the lake. Osakis is making ice, and cracks/heaves may appear. Massive ice build up on the south side shoreline.
I will be away from the lake for some appointments until Thursday.
Be aware. Be safe.

Took a drive around the lake today. Picture below is Battle Point landing. The landing was not like this yesterday. There is a heave at the access that buckled the concrete up. Could be difficult to navigate with a wheelhouse.

Hill Access looks good. Didn't check the Miller bay access, but I would assume it is okay. Town landing is heaving but still looks manageable to get access on and off the lake.

The hazard areas are marked in blue. Large cracks that have cracks breaking off and connecting again. The green mark is where the crack continues to go straight. Use caution when traveling by this area especially with a truck and wheelhouse.
For the houses by center bar I would travel there from Battle Point and not the town launch.

There is no such thing as safe ice.

I try to update with hazards on the lake, but there is a lot of water. I will be out today to check cracks, and will make a more detailed post about any hazards on the lake that I find. Cracks will start to be difficult to see with the snow coverage.
Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

This has come to our attention

Lost keys found at Battle Point.

"I was coming off battle point tonight and found a set of keys. Had keys to a fish house and the key fob that lowers hydraulics. I turned them into head of the lakes if anyone is missing keys!"

Did some scouting today. It's a great feeling to find new fish away from crowds.Even ran into some rock bass😳.

I get that this happens, but it's clear as day these fish were wasted for bigger fish to harvest.

Please use caution while on the ice. Seeing anywhere from 4 to 7" of ice on the big lake.
Snow coverage has been blown off the lake, and the ice is very clear. Fish are scattering when drilling over them. Patience is key this time of year, especially with sunny days.

Checked ice again today. 5" seems to be the average ice depth at Battle Point and Manthays Bay.
There was crazy wind yesterday. The good thing is there is a little snow on the lake. Helps identify areas of recent open water. Proceed with caution.
