We have been so busy with every day life and getting ready for a couple of shows, ( well, I am training a two year old c**t, so that takes time) but some one said they would like to see all of the finished pieces from the glaze load that was fired with The Reed Buck. Keep in mind that our average glaze load is 50 pieces, mugs, bowls, honey pots, pitchers and so on. But the last glaze load contained those large pieces.

For everyone who has followed the process of the slab/ wheel thrown pot that I just completed. I usually refer to this deer as the Gilmer Buck or the Reed Buck. There were so many stages to building this piece. I want to show you the first step beside of the finished piece.

Well, here’s the latest update on my slab/combo pot, aka Big Buck aka, Gilmer Buck, aka Reed Buck. I think I have referred to the piece by multiple names. It was loaded into the final firing today with some of my other creations that I made while working on it over the last few months. A glaze firing makes any potter nervous. It will finish firing around 1:30 A.M. and we will unload it in a day or two when it cools down. When they come out of this firing they will be what they are going to be. No more adjustments in design or color. A little nervous.

We always enjoy seeing our friends, pottery customers and fellow musicians at the Folk Festival, this year we will not be able to attend We will miss everyone. If you attend this year’s festival however, Duffield Pottery donated a nice hand made mug for the festival to raffle off for the benefit of the festival. See if you can win it.

Unloaded the kiln at 5:15 AM this morning , around 50 various pieces. The brush work and over glaze on the buck turned out all right. I will only make a few minor changes on the shading when I do the brush work on the large slab pot.

After so much time, bending over a piece with a paint brush and iron oxide you just have to walk away from it and come back and look at it later before you make any changes that you will regret. I use iron oxide brush, work a lot in my artwork, but I seem to forget that iron oxide and myself, have a love-hate relationship.
