Park City Mountain Resort on Tuesday extended the ski season by one week, providing a bonus seven days during a winter that was challenging on various levels. The resort moved the closing date to April 11.

Natural and human triggered avalanches are likely over the next several days. Stay off of and out from under slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

HEAVY SNOW AND DRIFTING WILL OVERLOAD BURIED PERSISTENT WEAK LAYERS AND CREATE WIDESPREAD AREAS OF UNSTABLE SNOW.

Just hanging out waiting for the snow to start. This time last season Marty moose told us that the park was closed, not this season. This incoming storm looks pretty solid, 11th-16th and possibly longer, will get some more clarity over the next few days, but looks like 40”+ possible over this time in the cottonwoods. There is another buoypop forming right now as well more to come on that. Please respect the snowpack, if you didn’t tune in to powderbuoy TV (episode 1) last week with Craig Gordon from the Utah avalanche center, I will have a replay up soon. Bottom line is that it is super sketchy, I think I read that we have lost 15 people this past week or 2 in avalanche related fatalities, and many close calls and injuries, absolutely tragic. There are slides happening on slopes that I always thought of as safe go-to spots. Please be safe, respect Mother Nature and physics.
