My Ideas in Wood allow you to integrate a piece of natural art with your fast paced lifestyle. In a world of plastic and metal, my products offer a breath of fresh air; providing functionality in beautiful solid cherry wood. Each piece is handcrafted in Pennsylvania from local, sustainably-harvested cherry trees. I work in collaboration with my father, Jonathan, who started Jonathan’s Spoons over

30 years ago. With his experience and my ideas, we create unique accessories that help bring the earth back to a modern world.

Today I am taking a breath and feeling celebratory.

I finished my Sunflower Dreams test knit for . It was lovely to knit! And as an added bonus I used my AND managed to snag one of her two extra large advent boxes.

Oh, also Biden and Harris are the projected winners of the United States presidential race in case you hadn’t heard 😉🥳. Big congrats to everyone who worked hard to get a good turnout for the vote. Let’s all take a moment to relax and enjoy this win, and then let’s get back to work! Yay Philly!

Finished my Guernsey Triangle Shawl just in time for Mother’s Day (and then blocked it the day after and then gave it back to my mom). A lovely pattern that focuses on the texture of the stitches. It has charts for the different sections. Though I’ve been knitting all but 5 years of my life, I don’t have a lot of experience with charts. It was simple to follow and helped me get a bit more comfortable with charted patterns. Highly recommend! I used Loft, purchased as part of their program.

Ideas in buttons. This is the manifestation of an idea that’s been floating around my head as I grouchily wear a mask while walking my dog. These merit buttons are supposed to be lighthearted, and commemorate a very odd time we’re all living through. Available in my Etsy store (ideasinwood.etsy.com). What would your Pandemic Isolation Merit Badge say?

Hope you’re all staying well!

Super excited to receive my copy of the Body in the Garden by ! So amazing to see a friend from my swing dancing days published! Also pictured is a birthday present for my mom: a Guernsey Triangle shawl that isn’t done yet. I am knitting it out of Brooklyn Tweed Loft yarn and it is delightful. A very pleasant way to spend a rainy (and quarantined) Monday.

This is something new that I have been working on. It’s has been slowed by current events over the last couple weeks. I live and work in Pennsylvania where we are supposed to be practicing social distancing. Since I work out of my house, and by myself, I’m going to keep creating as much as I can, though production of new things is going to be slow. If you are interested in one of these new picture stands, please let me know! I imagine them holding photos, notes by your desk, recipes or knitting patterns. It uses magnets to hold your paper in place.⠀

The card in this picture was created by and given to me as a gift. I love hedgehogs and this is one of my favorite hedgehog illustrations!⠀

Just heard that the American Craft Council show in Atlanta has been cancelled. Though I was not exhibiting there this year, I have in the past.

If you were going to attend this show (or any show/festival/market) that has been cancelled I hope you take the time to look at some of the websites of the artists who were going to be at the show and possibly order something from them online 🙂.

Exhibiting at events like these are crucial for many small businesses, and a lot of money is invested in booth fees, travel arrangements, inventory, and advertising.

Attached is a list of artists who were going to be exhibiting in Atlanta this weekend: https://craftcouncil.org/artists/94465

Sometimes the beauty in simplicity gets overlooked. Most of my work comes in a variety of designs, and I still include “natural” which has no extra embellishment. The casual observer might see it as plain, but I like to think that it highlights the unique wood grain of each individual piece.⠀⠀

Oh hey Instagram friends. It’s 2020. Long time no see! So the Instagram moment here has my current knitting project, my new bullet journal, and both my yarn tote box and my yarn spinner keeping the colors from getting tangled. The real life moment as I post this is me walking my dog in the woods, in the rain, with a cold, kicking myself for not taking the time to put on longer socks and hoping that the unleashed dog and person walking behind me manage to sufficiently steer clear of my protective Terrier companion.

There’s something comforting about repetition. Seasons come and go, holidays arrive, traditions are performed, and time keeps moving. Today I oiled about 100 coasters by hand. I repeated the motions over and over. Even though each coaster had the same design, however, I noticed and enjoyed the wood grain of each one individually.
Don’t forget! This weekend I’ve got a few special tricks and treats up my sleeve that will be available to my email subscribers. If you don’t want to miss out, go to my website (link in the profile), and sign up!

Six inch sun bud vases are on the oiling table today! They are being oiled in view of the garden and front lawn on this beautiful sunny day.

In a couple weeks I’m heading to a wholesale trade show for store owners and buyers in the needle-arts industry. It’s my second year at the show, but my first with a full size booth all to myself. I’m trying to stay on task with my ongoing to-do list in preparation for the show. It’s so easy for me (procrastinator as I am) to forget about many details until the night before. At which point I will inevitably say “never again!” for the umpteenth time.

I’ve been busy working on a few new things, but they will have to stay top secret until they’re done! So here’s a Sliding Book Stand in the Flower design. It’s one of my earliest patterns. Do you have a book you’re enjoying right now? I’m looking for something light and entertaining to read.

This is a part of the meadow coaster set. Each set comes with 4 coasters and a sloped Lazy Stand, similar to the Lazy Book Stand I shared a couple days ago. The coasters all have a groove around the outside that helps capture moisture before it escapes onto your table. The coasters have also been slow to catch on, but I do love them and use mine every day!

This is the press that I use to put most of my items together (check my story from today to see it in action!). It’s handy and reliable. We rarely fight with each other. Most of my multi-part items are precisely pressure fit together and don’t require any glue. In my last studio the press was facing a stone wall. I’m happy to now have a beautiful window to look through while I work!

The last few storms have left branches scattered across my front yard. One of these days I need to go out and pick them all up...but part of me wants to wait until flowers are blooming. Earlier this week reports said it was going to snow tomorrow, but now they’re saying it’s just going to be rainy. Who wants to pick up sticks in the rain? Not I! I think I’ll wait jus a little longer...
This photo shows a Meadow iPad stand. The stand is adjustable with two angle settings. One for typing or reading at a table, the other more upright - perfect for watching movies. I think this weekend is a movie weekend.

Spring. Spring spring spring! My father discovered recently that the center of forsythia branches are hollow, and the perfect size for his favorite pen insert. At my family’s Easter celebration he brought living pens for everyone to take home. I recently got some washi tape that I’m extra in love with and I am using it to decorate my notebook. So here I sit making spring knitting plans with a living forsythia pen.
